No, uniform, hats, helmets, badges, you name it, it's all the same, the fact is this stuff has such power over collectors, that even the flagrant violations are likely to soon be forgotten and when the dust settles, presto, thing are back to the old status quo.

I believe I have seen this happen before (without the help of the internet to expose the perpetrator).

Agreed, In fact I said the same thing yesterday in a private conversation.

This may hurt his reputation as a dealer BUT not his business of selling helmets. I am sure they will still fly off his website.

Personally, I think we've spent enough time debating this issue. Ken N has told us all what he thinks of the collecting fraternity by his obvious lack of reply. The years of support & recommendations he's recieved from this forum obviously has ment nothing to him except how to squeeze every last penny out of collectors, desparate to find that magic item. I would suggest we all no longer visit his site & certainly never buy from him again & generally black list him altogether.
One concern I do have is the lack of response from several of the forums more noted helmet guru's. I hope their loyalties are with the forum & not the dealer in question.
So forget Ken, pretend he never exsisted & carry on enjoying your collecting. Just make sure you know what your looking at !

I do not want to kick him when he is down but one thing I have noticed that his helmets for sale on his website is that most lack chinstraps. I see that under his Ebay ID he sells many chinstraps. For me, taking an original chinstrap off of an original, as found helmet, is a mortal sin! I am not saying that this is happening but I have found several German helmets for sale at thrift shops and garage sales over the years and they have all had chinstraps, or remnants of chinstraps on the D bales. Just something I have noticed over the years of watching Kens site, Ebay, and this forum. Regards, Chris
Chris, Yes it's a sad event.....I've also seen matched military rifles parted out on various auction sites (auction arms or gunbroker) with the intent of achieving maximum monetary compensation.....Greed is an unfortunate aspect of this hobby, but I'm afraid it's here to stay. Bodes

I think Ken Niewiarowicz is hardly a name I'll be forgetting if I decide to buy a helmet

With new technologies,PC,camera, the web,I don't understand why some people try again this kind of thing.

                            The Max Show Polizei Helmet.

WELCOME TO THE "WITCH HUNT"! GRAB A TORCH!! GET THE TAR AND FEATHERS!!! PICK UP THAT RAIL!!!! YOU'RE GONNA SEE "JUSTICE" DONE HERE AND NOW!!!!!

Never underestimate the STUPIDITY of uneducated "NEWBIE" German helmet collectors in LARGE groups! Do you people actually READ what you are WRITING?!! JEEZE!!!

What is the "CHARGE" made by the babbling "MOB"? A helmet liner was "SWAPPED". That's it. OH WOW! BIG DEAL!! "NEWBIES", settle down now and I'll give you a little history lesson here.

German helmet liners have been swapped by COLLECTORS and DEALERS for the past 60 YEARS! I've been in this hobby for almost 40 years and this has been an accepted FACT ever since I started collecting. PERIOD! Ever find a helmet in which some rat made a "dinner" out of the liner? How about one that "rotted" away in the damp basement? How about a helmet where the liner is just plain MISSING? If the shell is still a "keeper", then we "OLDIES" would go to a local gun show or flea market and buy some "biker" helmet, or foreign "reissued" helmet to obtain the NICE ORIGINAL German liner to replace the damaged or missing one. Just as long as the liner was in the appropriate condition, the right size and had the correct date on the band for the type of helmet it was going into, then there was NEVER a "PROBLEM" with doing this. EVERYONE DID IT, and STILL DOES!!

All COLLECTIBLES that are made from multiple parts (cars, trucks, radios, telephones, etc.) have broken and/or missing parts REPLACED ("SWAPPED") with other ORIGINAL parts to make the collectible COMPLETE once again! It doesn't ALTER anything, but rather RESTORES an item to the way it was intended to be.

This hobby has gotten so "WEIRD" that "collectors" (and I use the term loosely!) actually pay good MONEY for what is known to some as "GROUND DUG" German helmets!! We "oldies" look at that as one of the CRAZIEST concepts there is!! "NEWBIES", ground dug helmets are JUNK!!! TRASH!!! GARBAGE!!! They are not "collectibles" by any stretch of the imagination!!!

German helmets (and most other collectibles) are RESTORED by collectors and dealers (not to mention MUSEUMS!) to "bring back" something that "once was". The better the condition of a collectible usually increases it's VALUE. It is NOT an "ALTERATION", but a RESTORATION! And, RESTORATIONS have been an acceptable part of the collecting community since collecting began!

                              I guess I'll stay a newbie.
