    it is just so stupid
Every helmet should go with the liner that the German put in during the war!

It was great detective work Erich made! Thanks for that . We need a lot more of such guys!

I don't think so. A few more great guys like Erich and the hobby is gone. Kelly Hicks could not give a crap about any of you on the forum. He will still sell his helmets on Ken site. Maybe you should go after him, Kelly will not waist his time on this forum. I wonder why Because you all ready know everything there is to know in this hobby.

        Hi Charly
Thought you had said godbye ?

You might want to go to another higher forum like monkey.com were you can talk some serious helmet talk and not waste more time on us ignorants?

          waste of time?

Well, I wouldn't call this forum a waste of time. I am trying to learn something here, and judging from it's popularity, alot of others are too.

As for you, Charly, you might very well be wasting your time here. You've got your 600+ helmets, what are you doing here? Looking for some liners?

As for ruining the hobby, just accepting parts helmets as perfectly legit means its dead already, in my opinion.

Any of those M42s with a recently applied, but original, decal has suddenly become a rare helmet manufactured during the "transitional period".

Altering an artifact damages its history and devalues it, we collect for a variety of reasons, but for me its the link to history. Also its an expensive interest and if I fight to buy that thoroughbread piece of the past I don't smile on ones actions that would sell me a mongrel pup even if it is a nice dog

Had the same Idea lurcking in the back of my head... anyway wont say anything untill he replies.. it all depends on his defence..

But I agree, this is a serious issue, and at least to me, the outcome of this will cause me to think not twice but three times on purches from known collectors..
(I altered this sentence, what I wrote the first time, whcih was wrongly expressed was "the outcome of this will one way or the other, cause changes in the collecting world..")

For once I guess im glad I dont have that much cash to spend on high end helmets.. but I truly feel for those who do, and something like this should not go un-notcied..
The scam is not the biggest thing that disturbs me, cause thats something you have all the time everywhere, but the fact that history is altered and ruined because of a cuple of lousy $$ is horrible.. this issnt something that just affects us now that we loose money on it, but think, these relics are suposed to last, not just our lifetime, but thousands of years from now.

Thats something I feel there should be a stronger focus on, is the fact that its not just for you to enjoy, but when you buy a relic, its YOUR responsibility to protect it! I wouldnt look at it as I owning it, but rather safe keeping a piece of history, and its up to me how many years/decades this piece will survive..
And I will always do my best to protect it.. I just whish everyone would consider this instead of being blinded by the money

A lot of High Ground, moral talk going on here, born out of, what seems to be a documented transgression on the part of a trusted, knowledgeable source.

But "cause changes in the collecting world," well forgive me if I snicker just a bit.

Assuming there is no "appropriate" reply from this dealer (who I would not know if he were standing next to me, as I do not collect helmets), I might wager that a good number of you will be back "to drink at his watering hole" at some point in the future.

No, uniform, hats, helmets, badges, you name it, it's all the same, the fact is this stuff has such power over collectors, that even the flagrant violations are likely to soon be forgotten and when the dust settles, presto, thing are back to the old status quo.

I believe I have seen this happen before (without the help of the internet to expose the perpetrator).

Reissued helmets, whether factory, depot, field replaced, etc... seem to refect a much greater variety concerning band dates, often being earlier or later than the shell type.

IMO, the original 1939 band matched perfectly inside this police helmet for a factory issue. A 1940 zinc band would also make sense if field replaced or depot reissued. I do not believe it would make sense in a factory issue/factory reissue helmet.
You're right Brian, but there are anyway some exceptions, for example the ET/ckl m42 single decal with liner band dated 1940; I have seen many of these and they are original and unmessed with.

Your right, I see I might have expressed myself wrongly in that sentence.. I didnt mean it as a revelation.. but still this has given me a heads up to not trust the big collectors 100% and be more wary on my purcheses.. and that goes for all sellers, not just Ken.
But what I wanted focus on was the fact that history is being altered for $$ and thats whats my main concern here, not blacklist people of course

Look at the top line from this bitter forum member the word THANKS FOR THAT. this sticks out to me, its like it were personal!!! I think we can say that this is Ken of one of Kens mates??

I know for a fact that Ken is aware of this Thread.

At this point i would say to Ken just come on to the forum and talk to us so we can restore some faith back in you

True enough, and please forgive me, my intent was certainly not to "single you out."

"Not trust the big collectors 100%" or Anyone 100%, but focus on homework, homework! And let the item tell you "the story" and you might not have to rely on the dealer to tell it to you!
