im scanning everything hi res at the moment... I have 8000 plus done from the 24,000.
And I have the digital archive backed up and stored safely in 3 European countries. Updated and checked every 3 months.

But the question is.. what would be a safe location ?.. or split the collection up into 2 or 3 parts and keep them also in different countries...

Ian, you have what is possibly the best private collection of colour wartime and prewar slides and I envy you. What I don't envy is the colossal responsibility you now have to ensure their security and availability to future researchers and authors. I know from your blog that much of your material was rescued from certain destruction and you deserve a medal for that alone. No doubt the casual disposal of priceless media still continues - sadly, I fear it's not possible to save it all.

I sincerely hope that you can find a satisfactory solution to the security issue. Digitizing the entire collection is definitely a step in the right direction although you have a way to go !!

              Best of luck !!

the strange thing is !... as years go by and people see I am still collecting these old color slides.. I actually get more and more offers and more and more color slides.
And like any good healthy addict.. I can never say no of course ;-)

It is very important that the large quantity of original colour photography illustrating prewar and wartime Europe is preserved and kept for the future.
The collection is now simply too large and with too many pure incredible historical treasures to see lost, destroyed or damaged.....

Thats why I am open to all suggestions and offers of help to preserve this treasure of history !

                Ian :-)

back from work today to find a fresh new paper box with 385 original pre war color slides from a german family living between Stuttgart and Ulm. The collection is nearlly completly civilian but it is a beautiful record of a prewar german family filmed in beautiful colour film :-)
Im going to be adding the collection or atleast the highlights for the moment on the pixpast archive...

Also for info to all the people asking me.. I am sitting down the next few days and designing a better fee system on pixpast.com.. where people can get a copy of a color slide showing a town or city for under 10 dollars... at the moment with work i just had time to set down a standard high price for everything... not the best solution ;-)
