    That is very cool!

While I can't help you with locations...I have some post-war larger colour slides I'd love to have prints of...

Is it easy to do? To get a paper copy?

        Hi !

To be honest if you are just looking for simple scans to hold in your hand.. then most good photo shops and photo processing labs will scan slides for you.
If the content is really special then you can be a little more picky.

Can I ask what type and size are your post war slides ?
Also what topic are they... family ?

        Best wishes.
        Ian :-)

I will have to check on the size...they were larger and not in common use...

And yes...only of family (and a really cool car)...so of no interest to anyone except me.

          Thank you!

before the old lovely slides are lost....bring them into your local photoshop and get them scanned digitally and also printed... and then after keep the original slides in a nice tight slide box.. and keep them away from extreme heat and cold and of course moisture.

I should do that...they seem to have some very good images on them...better than most of the various print copies I have.

The slides - including the cardboard boarder - are 7 cm square.

I just copied this from my blog

This morning I was at my local flea market. I enjoyed my traditional flohmarkt breakfast.. a Fastbroose red Lemonad and a half meter bratwurst.. yum yum..
After that I walked out into the flohmarkt field... after 5 minutes.. I walked up to a little table where two young student guys were selling some old bits and pieces from their old apartment... under 4 pink broken wine glasses.. were 4 old wooden boxes... Typical for old color slides (farbdias)
I put my finger on the boxes and the seller told me.. I would not be interested.. they are only old slides (dias)
I laughed and asked to see them...
The second I said im interested... a good friend of mine tapped me on my shoulder... Ah Mister Spring... I see you have found something interesting.... I really like this chap but in this moment... I was the tiger..... he whispered to him... to give me a minute...
I worked the deal and got the 4 old boxes for a super price... I didn't even look at the pictures... I saw war time paper AYFRA frames and also some old wartime metal FILMOSTO frames and knew... i had won...

So a very happy camper today.. brought the boxes home and found out... the collection is a family collection from a Leipzig family that photographed the city centre of Leipzig in wonderful wartime agfacolor color film 35mm format.
The collection is a beautiful mix of family and city moments .. inlcluding wonderful portraits and also super color photos of the old Opera House in Leipzig 1940 in snow... really beautiful.

I will be scanning and adding the collection to my website www.pixpast.com in the coming Weeks.

                  hi guys !

i have a little question for you chaps.

I was doing a little googling around and found a russian guy posting really good quality scans of some of my original slides in my collection.
I never released these in such big quality or atleast without watermarking...

so the question is.... did he copy the watermarked versions and do an amayzing job of removing them... or has heen hacked my computer at home and downloaded the original high res scans.. or has he hacked my business website pixpast.com and downloaded them from there...

kinda strange feeling seeing large scans of my slides popping up... I wonder has he published more ?

also the scans do come from my collection and not an earlier owner of the slides... same scan frame.. exact same details on the scans....

what do you think guys ?

here are the links to the russian post and here are some of my slides that have been copied or hacked and shared openly....

or ?.... there is the weird option that the guy actually pieced together the image using the picture zoom tool on my website.. you can zoom up really close and if you have massive patience.. you can glue parts together ?

                    for example..

ok for safety measures... iv just turned off the zoom function on my site.. also added extra security on the server.. plus changes out all the passwords.. plus have now removed the last permanent harddrive with large res scans from the collection from the net connection.
also scanned my home computer with 3 different anti virus spyware programs and found nothing..

I do feel safer... but still would really like to know how this guy got his hands on these large scans from my private collection ?

On a brighter note... I went through my new boxes of Leipzig color slides last night and found a great little group of 25 color slides from the city centre of Dresden 1940. I actually very little material from this beautiful city and also think that because the city was almost wiped off the map at the end of the war by allied bombing... very little survived in way of color film and slides....

That's very unfortunate. Maybe you should also put a note on your website someplace...letting people know that others are stealing your images?

Not that that will stop anyone who is especially determined...but it might stop others...

And it will at least inform viewers that this is happening...

Are you sure these are your actual images and not period duplicates ?

I can't think that anyone would go to such extraordinary lengths to "doctor" your images, even if they were of his home town. I.e., you must have many more far more historically interesting images on which to (waste) hours removing the watermark !!

                          Comment

Ian, I've examined only one of your pics and there is the faintest trace of a red shade just about where the "X" of your watermark might be. It could, however, just be a mark on the negative or even a problem with the digital image (or just my imagination). Either way, I don't think your computer has been hacked - this is nowhere near as easy as it sounds, and I speak as someone who has had 20 years experience as a systems administrator. Especially since I assume both your router and your computer are fully protected (preferably not with Microsoft products!)

IF this guy has edited your images, he has spent a very long time doing so at pixel level and has, frankly, done an excellent job - I mean, we are talking hours spent on an individual image so the idea of him downloading your website and then producing "clean" copies of all your photos is very unlikely

Thanks John for all your help.
It just caught me off guard a little when I stumbled apon my scans in large res in the open domain.
Im still not sure what happened but from a little more searching, it doesnt seem like there was more leaked.
Its also not such a big problem... my last count about 5 years ago... I had a little more than 24,000 war time color slides in my collection... I dread the moment when I try and count up the collection again today and see how many I have... anyway it means nothing.. peanuts when a few end up public... peanuts...

But a massive big thank you for all your help ! i really mean that !!

                              have a lovely sunday.
