on another note.. can some one please tell me what is the second party badge in this color slide ?

the photo was taken in Leoben Austria 1938 during a visit from Himmler and Hitler inspecting the local mines and heavy industry.

I never saw the other badge before ?

      thanks.
      Ian :-)

Thanks, Ian. There is some controversy about these so a color picture showing a golf decal would be helpful.

                hi guys !

Im spending the day scanning new slides and also organizing them.
Of course I get a lot of beautiful old color slides that I have no idea where they were taken.

This is the first big question for me today... where was this taken ?

                      Hi Ian,

Two fine photos, though I can't tell whether both pix are of the same man, since the protection strip ("PIXTPAST.com") obscures half of the person's face in the upper photo. Both look similar.

The upper photo is of a Kreisleiter (an NSDAP Political Leader at the district or county level). He is wearing a mixture of uniform pieces, which was not uncommon during times of transition between uniform codes: his cap is of the 1939 issue style and his service tunic has been partially updated from the 1936 uniform style to that of the 1939 code -- while his white piping indicates the 1939 code, the collar patches themselves as well as the armband are of the 1936 code.

The lower photo is of a Gau Hauptdienstleiter and his armband denotes his position as Deputy Gauleiter. His whole kit is of the 1939 uniform code.

May I suggest that you add a copy of "Uniforms of the NSDAP" by our colleague, jeff Clark, to your library? This volume is fundamental in guiding one through the maze of uniform codes which Party Political Leaders went through. For example, on pgs. 35 and 37 you will find an example of the service tunic in your upper photo, and on following pages you will find examples of similar Gau-level uniforms of this rank and position.

Many thanks for sharing these fine photos with us, my friend!

Thanks a million for your information about the uniforms.
you are right.. that book would be a real asset to ID these uniforms !

I was also delighted to receive some super help from a historian in Leoben in Austria and he was able to put some names and locations to the photos.
So the history gets pieced back together.. step by step...

                        THANK YOU !!

                          Leipzig in Farbe

                          Hi Ian,
bought your book "Leipzig in Farbe" the other day. Great book, like a time capsule. I like the way it shows ordinary life. It was very interesting to see that life carried on with relative normality well after the start of the war.

                          Best regards, Paul

Also the book seems to be selling really well.. so the publishing house wants me to publish 2 more books for 2015... one more city in color book and one technical military book.. also of course in original color photos... I think the second book will be...mmmm definitely on the 2015 Christmas wish list of many guys here .... ;-)

Its a dream come true.. for me to share my color slide collection like this.... :-) :-)
