here is a new one in the door.
a wonderful color slide showing a german girl wearing typical Bavarian dress, circa 1937.

          Ian,
She doesn't look very German and her dress does not appear to be Bavarian. She has a more Slavic appearance and that would fit the costume, but I might be wrong.

hi max, this small box of color slides that i got this week all came from around Munich and Bavaria.
I have also seen this type of costome being worn in other collections of slides from Bavaria.
I have hundreds of color slides showing local germans dressed up for town festivals and parties and some one could make a great book simply on the old beautiful traditional costume of every district and town in Bavaria alone.

            Ian :-)

a book project idea that i think now i have enough good color slide material to make it happen ?
can you guys suggest a publishing house that might be interested in doing such a book ?.
                thanks.

Hi Ian, I think it's a great idea and I look forward to buying a copy. As far as publishing houses go I can't help on that but I wonder if there is any chance of local government/council authorities being involved in funding or supporting it from a cultural or historical perspective ? In addition to the photo collector & general audience I think tourists to Leipzig might be interested in something like that.

                    Hi Ian,

Sounds like a great idea but i have my doubts you´ll get support from Leipzig itself. I may have somebody in mind who can publish this project.

I would have to believe Arndt Verlag would be interested in such a project.

I really like that picture of Stolp with the Munds Hotel. I might be interested in using it in a book if possible. The subject of my biographical research, Meinrad von Lauchert, started out his military career with Reiter-Regiment 5, based in Stolp. He went back for a visit in 1937 and here is the hotel stationery from a letter he wrote then.

a lot of collectors will laugh when they see this.
it was for sale on ebay for almost one year unsold. of course for a good reason, 25 euros for this shot is crazy.
but when the seller dropped the price after a year, i snapped it up for 9 euros.
The reason I like it is because the german soldier is wearing really heavy duty winter cloths, put together from captured russian material and also he is wearing his german camera case.
I love war time color slides showing cameras

                          enjoy.

Stolen Gebirgsjäger farbdia with Kamera man

Stolen Gebirgsjäger farbdia with Kamera man

Last year I had contact with an antique dealer in Meissen Germany.
The man had a small collection of german color slides.
He held a few slides to the window and sent me some sample photos.
The best color slide he showed me was a super shot showing a german war reporter using his film camera.
A super color slide. the others were normal and nothing really special.
any way i received the parcel late last year and of course, every thing was there except the best color slide.
the parcel was not played with and it arrived relativly quickly from Meissen.
So the only solution I can think of, is that the seller just kept it for himself or sold it to a camera or photo collector for more money.

another bad thing was that the seller refused to even give me some of my money back for the missing slide.
and since then the seller has just refused to answer my emails.

                            so here are the samples.
if anyone has seen this color slide, please report it to me, it is stolen property !
