Did Stauffenbergs adjutant really stand in front of him at the time of execution? I thought it was a great movie ,of course you could pick it to death but why? It's entertainment, thats what it's meant for. And I hardly thought they " Crammed Christianity down your throat " as Lord Winter described it , A 2 min. scene in a bombed out church is hardly that. I loved the uniforms, I'm reminded of why I like to collect this junk!!!

      Hello:
If you watch the "H" Valkyrie story program you will see why.
It is because the movie execution scene was filmed where the
actual event took place, which now contains a large court yard
memorial monument, which wouldn't quite fit the 1944 look.

Tom-Kat's deleted scenes had been left in ?

Mr Friedman is disappointed with "Valkyrie":

            a) Soldiers are "not wearing their arm bands"
            b) the swastikas on the uniforms are too small
            c) there are not enough Nazi flags
            d) the German officers are not cruel enough
            e) an insufficient amount of time is dedicated to the German crimes
I worked at FoxNews.com until 2001. Roger Friedman always was saying stupid things even back then in his column. I doubt he does any research... my favorite back then was when he said, "the boys on South Park will do something Bart Simpson never did. They'll reach the fourth grade."

I brought that up to the producer of his column, and reminded everyone that since the first episode of The Simpsons, "Bart Simpson has always been in the fourth grade!" Ugh.

Saw the movie last night. Was pleasantly surprised at the lack of "Hollywood" (i.e., special effects, a love triangle, etc.) seemed pretty well straight forward and balanced.

Definitely worth my $9.50 - even if some of it does go to Tom Cruise

From what I have read this is true, Oberleutnant Haeften did step in front of him.

Also of interest is that General Beck was given a pistol to shoot himself, as shown in the movie, but he failed in his attempt and had to be shot by someone else.

OK, went to see Valkyrie this afternoon. As a Tom Cruise detractor, I must go on the record and say that I actually enjoyed this movie.

I thought that the overall acting was very good. They did take some artistic license with some things, a few "oops" moments, and a little slow at some points. However, all in all well beyond what I had expected.

I'd recommend it, and I'll buy it when it comes out on DVD to rewatch it.

Oh and as for Friedman's review............... "are you sh**ing me..... not enough Swastika's ????? Is this man on crack ???? They had a tiled Swastika at the bottom of the damn swimming pool !!!!!! and a stained glass one

                  Give me a break,........................

I saw it today as well and agree with Huntzman's points above.

This Friedman person obviously has his own agenda but naturally I won't mention it here.

Interesting, when were you there? Assume we are talking about the Bendlerblock, Stauffenbergstrasse 13-14, D-10785 Berlin, if so here is the Memorial to German Resistance online description...
(Local Name: Bendlerblock) In the courtyard of the former Supreme Headquarters of the German Army in Berlin's Tiergarten district stands the so-called Bendlerblock as a memorial to those who, having failed in their attempt to assassinate Hitler here on July 20, 1944, were shot that same night. Those executed were Generals Beck and Olbricht, Colonels Count von Stauffenberg and Mertz von Quimheim and Lieutenant von Haeften. The statue by Richard Scheibe (1953) is that of a shackled youth.

Saw it last night and loved it.

It was neat to see that they brought in at least 2 actors from Downfall. And one of the women in the Berghof scene sure looked a lot like the woman who played Traudle Junge in Downfall. So maybe 3 actors from Downfall?

I wonder if they collborated with the producers of Downfall when they filmed in Germany? As somebody already mentioned, too bad they couldn't get Bruno Ganz to play Hitler.

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it very much. Of course as with everyone else, I'll buy the video. Hopefully they will have alot of extras in it.
Surprising to me was that I went at 14:45 on a Saturday and the theatre was packed, maybe 10 seats left open. So its still getting a good turn out.

I just read Friedman's review. Sadly, this is what happens nearly every time when you have someone with absolutely zero knowledge of the history and context of the period outside of elementary school textbooks combined with an agenda.
