Thats like buying a ferrari and finding out you have skoda engine in it and the dealer saying 'Ooops, how did that get in there? It must have been the new guy'.

IS REMOVING THE CHIN STRAP TO SAVE IT FOR ONE OTHER HELMET OR REPLACING WITH ONE OTHER IN WORST CONDITION A CRIME TOO?

It should be mentioned that I have had a resolution in my personal experience with the infamous swapped liner episode vis Ken N. He has made good both to myself and the original buyer of the helmet. I don't know that this "proves" a swap. but it does prove when an error was made, it was corrected.

          Paul,

I am sure the outcome would have been very different if not for this thread. Ken is still a crook in my opinion.

Yeah, but it's too late to mend the sellers reputation..., one thing, though,at least this time the buyer recovers his money thanks to Erich.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to do so for any purpose other than financial gain. There is certainly more to the hobby than that.

BULLSEYE!!! could it be a 'wardrobe malfuction' .... "Oops look at that, the original 1939 steel liner fell out, I dont know much about liners but here's one that looks similar, I'll just re-attach it" ..

Since he made good with myself and HJP, I thought a "neutral" word might encourage a reply. This is a quite large s**tburger to bite into, tho. I don't need to draw any further conclusions from this affair, (22000 hits +?), but, in my case, fair is fair. On that note, a tip o the hat to Erich.

Happy everything worked out for you Paul. Just so there is no confusion, the helmet involved in Paul's transaction was another helmet sold by Ken N. and not the one that Erich first posted.

G- Not in my mind as long as you represent it that way. I think the problem is when you say something is untouched and unaltered you mean it...

How could Ken just throw his reputation away like that? This whole affair is just sad Which sellers are honest? Which ones are not? Who knows? This whole thing has turned the helmet collecting world on its head.

I'm not quite sure what he was thinking either. Why take a valuable helmet with a perfectly textbook liner/shell combination and replace it with a 1940 zinc band? And then represent it as a "transitory" factory produced piece? Was it supposed to be some super rare combination that would be much more valuable/desirable than the standard aluminum band?

On closer examination it seems that such a factory combination may be only a fantasy. Time will tell.

It's not that he was making the police more valuable, obviously the removed early liner was needed for another high dollar helmet. The question is, was that high dollar helmet original or not.
