I believe it is a medical canteen. I recall a member saying that those with brown straps were for female equipment. Perhaps it is female corps.

After many year of reserach, finally I'm proud to share my ESB33 matching canteen.
2 month ago ago I found the cup (thanks Mattia), last week the canteen on ebay.
Good overall condition, the strap on cup is broken unfortunately, btw I'm very happy with this baby:

Question on Maker's mark

Hi,
I have procured this early war aluminium canteen that has matched maker's mark on the aluminium cup and stopper "FWBN39". However, there is no maker's mark on the neck of the bottle itself.

Is this usual for early war canteens? All the later war canteens carried the mark on the bottle as well. Even the steel painted ones.
