My apologies Mil, I have been corrected on the where-abouts of JP's Mahnmal Statue, but would still love to see yours.

The good news is that the plaques are much more affordable than the statues and that both the plaques and the statues are thankfully much more affordable than the original Kurt Schmid Ehmens.

Man, That's a NICE Bird! Butch
Here is another original Kurt Schmid Ehmen wall eagle that sold 5 years ago with its description that specifically mentions the 'Mahnmal' commission. Photos & Description-Hermans Historica 2009.

      A large, bronze wall eagle.
Artist's signature "Schmid-Ehmen. München" on left wing. Dark brown/green patinated bronze, fixtures for wall-attachment on the rear side. Height 53.5 cm, width 102 cm.
The eagle is very similar to the eagles mounted over the entrances to the New Reich Chancellery in Berlin.
Prof. Kurt Schmid-Ehmen, the "Eagle Maker" is regarded the creator of the Reichs Eagle and the Eagle Emblem of the National Socialist Party. He studied at the Art Academies in Leipzig and Munich, was master pupil of Bernhard Bleeker and gained acclaim with several busts, among them one of the famous pianist Josef Pembauer, teacher of concert pianist Hetty Haelssig (later to become Schmid-Ehmen's wife). He joined the NSDAP in the early 1930s. His contact to Paul Ludwig Troost lead to first assignments and the personal acquaintance of Adolf Hitler. He designed the Memorial for the Victims of the 9th November 1923 in the Feldherrnhalle, the eagles at the NSDAP buildings in Munich and at the Reichsparteitagsgelände in Nuremberg as well as the eagle relief for the smoking room in the New Reich Chancellery. He created his largest bronze eagle (nine meters in height) for the German Pavillon at the World Exposition in Paris 1937 and received for this accomplishment the Grand Prix of the Republique Francaise.

Chen - Thanks a lot for posting such a wonderful Mahnmal Monument statue. Yes it is an unusual marble base on this one but looks great, the whole statue seems to be in amazing condition and is indeed an excellent and very striking example.

          Moloppkit,
Every time when you post your eagles, I always like to take a look to learn something . I especially like this b/w photo which you posted for your eagles.

Anyway, back to Mohnmal statue first.

I have seen only a few examples with the white marble bases and I'm not sure if they are replacement bases. That said, I think these statues really are cool pieces of history and a must if you have a Blood Order.

Yes, different color marble bases. Perhaps nil marble base is the answer.

Personally I'm partial to the black marble bases with the white veining on these pieces.

                      ErichS,
I think so too. Black marble with white veins.

I have admired these Mahnmal desk ornaments and unashamedly covet owning one myself! Wish I could respond to Mil's question -- "how many members here own the Mahnmal statue?" -- with a YES...but I can't.

Not sure how many members have one but I can only think of a handful of collectors that I know who have one.
