Yes good observations Erich. There is a lot more but don't want to help them out with mark2 ! I'm afraid this would fool a lot of people, and hit someone to the tune of around 6.5K

      Guidance sought

I'd be the first that my knowledge in the Blood Order field is limited but I'm baffled by the apparent discrepancy in quality between the two Orders pictured here (both in this thread).

      [IMG][/IMG]

Look at the definition, the crisp execution of the one on the left compared to the right.

Look at how, on the left, the steps lead neatly up to the central plinth, they don't on the one on the right.

The balustrade on the right is just so vague, more so than dould be expected by simple handling over the years.

The left-hand lion on the right-hand medal is also so poorly defined that it's lost a leg.

I'm slightly more familiar with British campaign medals but again, in that field, definition/crispness shouldn't be expected to vary so much. I hope I'm not putting any noses out of joint and I guess the quality of pics may be an issue but this genuinely suprises me.

Hi Stewart, The order 1420 is a fairly worn example ,so much so it has lost a couple of grammes in weight in fact. Believe me I had this one under very close scrutiny under a 20x loop. It is original, just more worn than the example you have compared it to. I concluded it has been polished much over its life span and this has softened some of the detals. It is very soft silver after all.
Don't worry about putting noses out of joint. They are valid observations, but in this case I am very happy to have this piece in my collection

Also the lighting conditions in these 2 pics are hugely different.

Like Jon has said, Order # 1420 is very worn or possibly has had a hard cleaning. All of the elements are there as on other originals.

Fair points - lighting is very different and as for cleaning, Tommy did have a habit of taking the Brasso/Duraglit to any bit of metal that ever came his way

It's a shame that some collectors think that by cleaning an item it makes it better.

Here's a pic of Hermann Esser with a little something for everyone!

Here's another interesting photo of a BO in wear. This is Streicher wearing his BO reversed. I guess he didn't read the regulations!

Hi Erich, His is one Blood Order I would really love to own. Never heard of it in a collection?
Here is an image I had never seen before until this week.....

Could this be a later photo because of the windbreakers that they're wearing which were later sanctioned for the anniversary marches?

With the mismatching windbreakers and proto-Hitler Mützen, it looks like a period 20s shot to me.

The banners are certainly from the early '20s, but many of the caps appear to be coffee-can style, which didn't come on the scene until the late '20s. I'm not sure how to read this...

Tough call guys, it was advertised as early 20's, training for the putsch.

Here is a little piece I picked up related to Wilhelm Friedrich Loeper
Who's Blood Order grouping I own.

                                Nice Jon!
My guess is that there was no practice for the march on the FHH due to it being unplanned. Windbreakers were authorized for the reunion marches but probably never worn. There is a photo of the wind jackets in the Deutschland Erwache book by Ulric.
