Hi Guys, the attached photo is in a photo album from my granddad...he died four years ago and I inherited his photos, etc....unfortunately, before he died he hardly ever spoke about his time in the Army,..he served from 1936 to the end of the war and then spent more time away from home, first as a US POW, then transfered to the British and ending up with the Russians...towards the end of the war he was an NCO instructor for dealing with anti-personnel mines based at some Infantry School in Le Mans, but started off in a Pionier-Unit building bridges...the photo below is in one of his albums and there are also photos, where he clearly wears exactly the same badge or patch on his upper left arm of the uniform jacket....but I have no idea what this is and I have certainly never seen it worn as a shield on the uniform, other than in his photoalbums?? Anyone know what it is please? CHeers, Torsten.

PS: I will start a thread somewhere to ask about the sleeve shield...

      Hi torstenbel

I think your emblem is Pioneer-Steuermann (engineer assaultboat helmsman).

Here's a pic of a Steuermann cloth badge (man second from right) being worn.
Soldiers are members of Magdeburg Pi. Btl. 4. Is the badge in your photo similar?

        Cheers

Heres one, as I know this vehicle is part of the 29th ID in summer 1941. Any ideas? Actually I dont know what either markings are for.

            Thanks

              Hi Mike:
On your photo with the two vehicles, I would call the one on the right an Opel 3 tonner with one of the rather rare LW split window open cab type bodies. I do not remember another photo with this one as a cargo truck but have several as specialist vehicles deployed by the LW.
The one on the left seems to be either a GMC or Chevrolet ex French Contract vehicle, a beute.
As usual, I have no clue on the emblems

              Bill

                Hi

An Adler 3 Gd with an unknown symbol. Does anyone recognize it?

                Cheers

                  Sturmgeschutz Kompanie Stubben

Here is a photo of Thomas Hvistendahl (CO of the 5th "Norge") somewhere in the Kurland Pocket in 1944 beneath a directional sign marker for my relatives unit "Sturmgeschutz Kompanie Stubben" (who's photo I use as my avatar picture) which was the 3rd Company of Waffen-SS Panzer Abteilung 11 "Hermann von Salza".

Hi Larry, yes it is the same badge. I still need to search through his papers, but I think that my grand-dad may have been a member of the Pionier Battl. 4 towards the end of the war...I remember seeing that or a similar unit named on his 1944 war marriage announcement card...but the card is still with my parents and it will be a while before I get to see it again....below is a pic of my grand-dad wearing the Steuermann badge (he is the NCO on the left and the photo would have been taken on the same day as the vehicle pic), but I was wondering why the badge was used as a tactical symbol on the vehicle...I know that he was an instructor in a Pionier Training School in Torgau (near Magdeburg) from 1936 to the beginning of the war and I think the vehicle pic may be from that time...? Cheers, Torsten.

Here is a new one that resembles the emblem for the 167 INF-DIV.

Any idea what unit this is? I cannot pin down the tactial symbols. They are travelling to Pottenstein and I am pretty sure its pre-war or early war time period. Unit appears to be infantry mounted on bicycles. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

                        Thanks,

                        Thomas

Hello all here is a recent pickup that has a number of unit insignias. The one I know is the LkW in the background, it bears panzer group3 emblem. As for the LkW in the mid ground and the the two insignias on the cycle and LkW I am not sure at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
