    Windjacke

Many members of organizations in the Weimarer Republik like Wehrwolf, Stahlhelmbund, early SA etc. used the so called Windjacke. These jackets from that period are very rare today. They were worn, worn....and finally most were thrown away.

I got an untouched Windjacke from the 20's two weeks ago. You could wear it in very different ways. Both sides of the jacket had buttons and buttonholes. You could close it left, right, wear it with open collar, closed collar etc.

Especially during the early years the Windjacke was worn by Wehrwolf members, who had no field grey uniforms, or members who were not allowed to wear field grey uniforms (younger members for example).

PS: I also know photos of Wehrwolf groups in the early years, where all members wore a Windjacke.

It was also possible to get equipment from the Wehrwolf organization.

Next photo shows a page of a Wehrwolf id card in 1924. You can see, sometimes members got membership badges, headgear or a Windjacke from the Wehrwolf (Leihgabe).

            very nice.

It was popular with some of the Freikorps in the Baltic, during the 3rd Polish Uprising in Silesia and the Kapp Putsch. I seem to remember a picture of Rossbach wearing one around the time of the Battle of the Annaberg when remnants of Freikorps Rossbach were in Silesia incognito, as they had been ordered to be disbanded after participating the failed Kapp Putsch.

                          Limbach.

It was one of the first Wehrwolf Ortsgruppen in Sachsen (later "Schwarze Brigade").

                              Some more informations.

During first years the Ortsgruppe Limbach had c. 500 Wehrwolf members.

In 1923 the group gave many NSDAP members a "new home".

They supported again the NSDAP as the so called "Schwarze Brigade" in 1933.

A short time after the Heimatfest in June 1933, it was the end of the "Schwarze Brigade" in Limbach.

1933 was also the end of the Wehrwolf in Germany.
