Have the straps always been fixed the wrong side of the liner band ?

I have pictures on file of several airborne helmets fitted with brown/brownish leather straps. Uncommon perhaps but not necessarily bad.

The straps have not been dyed and they are original to helmet. Ade Stevenson has seen this helmet in perso. I can tell you Greg it has not been messed with. Another BMB helmet i have also has a brownish tinge as the dying was obviously not done well.

          Many thanks,

          Hi Garth
I did not mean to imply that the helmet was wrong, just that the straps looked odd, rest of the helmet looks great and from what others have said the straps are probably unusual variant.
all the best with the sale, Lee

Nice helmet Garth, good to see you posting again Mate

I've had a helmet with these brownish straps and seen a few others. In hand they do look as though they were once black and that the pigment has come out of the leather. All the straps I've seen like this have been buttery soft and I wonder If some proprietary leather feed may be responsible for the loss of colour? Just a theory, feel free to jump on It.

            Yours, Guy.

the straps look fine to me, as for the straps being on the outer side of the metal band, my para lid is the same. i wonder if any other members have the same?

I also believe this might well be the case.Do not believe in a brown variant.

That was a really neat grouping Des, but went for more than double what I thought it to be worth. I guess I may have undervalued a couple of the pieces. I have a couple of the Operations Manuals, this is the first time I have seen one for sale though. The winning bidder was "popskipa" but do not know him, nor if he is a forum member, a great score IMO. Regards, Clive.

Have a look on this very nice WW2 British Browning/Colt Hi-Power ammo pouche :

                            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I know these pouches can make a lot of money, but it's NOT it's value that strikes me !!

I know the seller and I also know that it's a 100% original pouche, but what strikes me is the comments some "experts" give on the item.

IF someone (Phil) really has seven of those pouches in his collection what makes him claim that these one's are "fake"or "repro"??

Have a look on the auction and especially the comments from the bidders.

What the forum's opinion about the comments ?

In today's world everyone seems to be an EXPERT. except me. The comments by that Phil person are just that, his comments.

I have comment correctly and incorrectly on many topics, given stable advice, and some not so stable.

Knowing the seller should only pay a small part in the overall decision. I myself, do not know the seller.

BUT I feel I have a pretty good idea on these pouches, to me.... They look just fine.

If I was in the market for a set of these, I would be very very interested for sure.

I tend to base my purchase decisions on my own knowledge and experience. This does pose a problem when I see something that is outside my normal area of Knowledge. Then like others I try to educate myself quickly and will not hesitate to ask for opinions on items, but ultimately I make my own decisions based on as much information I have available.

Again, I like these pouches, but am a little put off by some of the comments made by the EXPERTS
