Hi, He could of stuck a pad in the helmet, notice there is no chalk line around the pad, which I know could have worn off.

        Hi S,
I would go for the first pattern dated 1943 nice size but if you have the time i would wait for a better specimen

I would go for the first pattern ,allthough damage to the collar its a nice size and has nice camo. But I like them a bit tatty. And being a first pattern its also more correct for a ww2 airborne soldier than the second pattern.
Would make sure if the tail is still there so ask for more pics.
Most likely it will at least double the current bid.
          Good Luck!

          Regards Johan

The early shells have a smooth finish not the sand type on this one.

All mine early and late have the yellow spash inside.

Please show me what you mean. Maybe you could start a seperate thread.

Here's a potentially interesting lot, if only the stampings hadn't been tampered with.

The post-war dates have been modified on the chalice, paten and flask. The wartime date on the case has been applied particularly crude. The number 1 on the chalice, paten and flask's year of manufacture (1955) has been altered into a 4, and a desirable wartime year of manufacture has been added.

This is what the original marks look like on a water flask.

He put a reserve on, so i think the jacket wasn't really sold the first time......

Anyway 757 pounds seems to me a nice price if you look in which state he is

If he did put a reserve on it, it was met and the item was sold. The only reason I can think of is that the winner expressed not to honour his bid and the seller didn't make a second chance offer to the underbidder.

I think it too Luc,.... but is it so easy for the buyer to avoid his responsibility to withdraw his bid?? I thought always that bidding on Ebay has his obligations?

Yes, a good price considering the condition. Could be a number of reasons why it's relisted but often people will bid high and not complete. Ebay has too many rules for the seller but nothing to stop the buyer walking away from the deal, the seller can't even leave negative feedback. Personally, for that price I would have offered it to the underbidder but maybe there is more to this story.

Was he [or a pal] bidding the price up and it backfired?
