    Hiya Des,

I think the HP was created in 1935?

    Thanks, from Jack.

        Jack/Simon,

I think you misunderstood my post. I am not calling the item into dispute. I am just saying I never knew an RAF version existed (Its very possible they issued HP pistols to MPs) and previously the earliest pouch I saw was dated 1943 so a 1936 dated one is I imagine pretty scarce. I think it will break $1000 at least.

This is pretty interesting. Has anyone seen one of these before? Maybe Guy? Its very similar to the Windproof Camo scheme (in terms of the colours used).

LOL and in follow up to the above post, the auction photo also shows a full zipper in wear!!

Des, these bincoulars is seen before used by canadian paras, its not only the picture from the adv. I saw one picture before in a book were canadian paras did us it! Airborne by Brian Nolan Why cant it be in use with the paras, i didn`t see it in pictures with the reguler Army, i think it wasn`t a very practical optic!

I think the RAF Police still use the HP today?

              Thanks, from Jack.

                Hi Des,

I've never seen the smock before but I have seen a pair of trousers in this pattern. They weren't lined like the smock and they had two dressing pockets on the arse like Airborne trousers. They also had hip pockets but no map/cargo pocket. It is probable or possible that these are indeed SOE items as the 1 piece SOE jump suit is of this blotchy design as opposed to the angular brush strokes of the Smock Windproof. A very nice item indeed.

                Yours, Guy.

                    Hiya ,
sorry i dont like it , also i have been told that the position of the two bottom tunic buttons ( close together ) is a post war style , no medal ribbons and no close up photo of the RAF wings puzzles me , but to be fair i suspect the seller believes the tunic is original ?
                    regards ,Michael.

I have to agree, it is a bit fishy...

The guy was awarded the Dutch Flying Cross after he died, so it can't have been on his tunic.

Does this "experimental airborne bag seen in militaria" ring a bell to anyone?

Hi Luc, it is water bag. They were issued to A/B forces and can be seen on a couple of kit displays done by the Ordnance Corps during the war showing airborne issue kit. However, like several other webbing items in these photos, they are not solely airborne issue. There can be seen Thermos flask carrying packs, (Like we talked about on the forum the other day) and Vickers ammo packs too.

                              Cheers, Ade.

                                Hi Luc,

Its the one gallon collapsable "Airborne" water bottle. They are quite scarce and if this one could be had for 25 euros it would be a bit of a bargain. It also has a nice early date which is a good thing. Whilst the Airborne used this bottle and there is some talk that it was designed specifically for them it can also be found in pictures in use by other personel. I have seen it in use by Infantry, and lashed to tank turrets. Still as our American Cousins would say "it's a neat item" it's just that the title "Airborne" and "Experimental" could be a bit of a mis-nomer.

                                Yours, Guy.
