What(?) happened at the SOS An $18K SS uniform stolen.

I saw or heard somewhere that a guy walked away from a table with an SS uniform, what kind and rank, I don't know.
A helper sold it for $1800 instead of $18,000???
The issue was raised on the loudspeaker system??
I was there and didn't hear anything.
    Anyone know what happened?
    Happy ending?
    Sad ending?
    Buyer's name?
    Seller's name??

As I understand, it was accidentally sold at the wrong amount by a table helper. The buyer, as long-time collector was offered several thousand over "his" purchase price, just to return it. He refused, claiming he has sold it for a mere $2000. I know his name, but it's not for me to toss out there. I believe it had an unhappy ending for the original owner.... This is as I understand it - 3rd party.

18K, is this the going rate for SS uniforms with rat hole on sleeve?

No, folks need to hire or have table helpers that are aware of what is for sale and the selling price. Granted, it could be bad form to knowingly buy something you know is probably a mistake, but it is not the buyers responsibility to inform the seller of what he is selling it for.

Tom - you pretty much got the story as it was being told at the show.

Buster - I'm with Tanker here. The one who needs the kick in the ass is the seller. How in the hell do you not adequately prepare your table helpers to deal with an item that valuable??? Also, and this one I really don't understand - why would you not tell your helpers that certain items are not to be sold while you're away from the table. I have often told my help that if somebody wants to see certain items to call me and I will come back to the table to show/discuss it.

Regardless, the buyer should have taken the high road and returned the tunic.

Can you imagine that helpers face when they told the boss they sold the tunic for full price $1,800.00 and then imagine the bosses face!

Spencer is a good guy, and anyone who bashes the helpers has never worked at a table in a show like this. Unlike most dealers he does tag most of his things, so without having been there, I'd think the tag was misread. No one deserves to be taken advantage of.

I saw the tunic. Yea it had a hole, but all officer insignia was original and real (and the cuff title was worth more than 1800...)

Shame and bad Karma on the buyer...

                              Wow!

I purchased a pair of shoulder boards from Spencer's table, albeit at a fair price for both sides. The table helper who sold them to me seemed like a sharp young guy. I hope this doesn't fall on him.
