It is a period gold wire tally from that ship. As is apparent, cut to the name and as such, not very valuable since there are enough full length examples out there that a collector should wait for one of those.

The exception to this is if you were framing a print of the ship and wanted an already cut tally to be part of the display. Then it works quite well.

I value it at around 50 euros.

        Just my opinion. John

I agree with John R. This is a nice metal thread version. It would look nice mounted under a nice picture of the Graf Spee. It is of a very well known and therefore a desirable tally by those who might not even really collect mützenbands.

Here is the GS bell from the Angolia book. I cannot make out the name on the bell, so have to go with what the caption says. I also have no idea why Scharnhorst would have Spee's bell.

To me, it is the same bell and that Angolia was mistaken, the both shots of the bell were taken aboard Graf Spee. It looks like the same bell to me although the ringer attachment may be different, the bell looks painted in both cases at the bottom, background looks the same.

If that is the case, the bell is still aboard Graf Spee and Scharnhorst's bell is still at the bottom of the sea with her.

Upon closer study, the bells are different. Comparison thanks to Norm.

                    Hi

here is the bell I found a few days ago for $60.

they also had a nice brass bell from the US Navy that was $100 with arm to hang off the wall. That bell weighs about 35 pounds and was $100. I also bought that one too.

this Graf Spee bell is made of pot metal/poorly made. It might weigh 7 or 8 pounds.

                              Graf Spee Cap Talley

I have looked all over the internet and on here and cannot find many examples of these cap talley's. I hope you fellas can help me? I realize the photos are excruciating but that's all I have so far.
