Fantastic photos and ones that I never have seen. I always thought that the lids were made of bronze and not iron.

we should probably quit publicly 'oohing' and 'aahing' over these lest we find a dozen mint ones available at the next national show!!

Thanks for the comments guys. These photos are all from issues of the Illustrierter Beobachter. You would be amazed at the images you can find in the various Illustrierte magazines of the time period. IB is probably the best of all the ones issued during the TR period.

Thanks Richard--do you happen to have the date/year of the construction issue? I've got quite a few IBs but haven't looked through them for years.

Erich, I believe it was the 7 November 1935 issue. Here is a photo from a November 1935 issue of Münchner Illustrierte Presse from the same ceremony/event.

And yet another. Note the photo of Hitler offering condolences to one of the widows of the fallen. This was a popular shot and can also be seen the pics of the IB I posted.

Even local radio program papers got into the act that year.

Jon, these have a hole in the a base that is at the lower rear of these glass WHW items. The base allows them to stand, as in the position that Giel showed. If you were to hang it by the string, it would actually wind up hanging upside down, which I found quite odd.

I'll try to post some more photos from some assorted books I have over the weekend.

I'll check to see if I have that issue! I look forward to seeing what other treasures you have.

The postings and sharing of photos in this Forum as of late relating to the Blood Order and the Munich Mahnmal/Ehrentempels has become a great reference to all us collectors. Please keep the photos coming!!!
On a side note, I read that each Sarcophagus weighed about 2300#.
