Can anyone here give an estimate on what these statues tend to sell for when they actually trade hands? I'm guessing that these sell from collector to collector, "behind the scenes" so to speak and never even come close to hitting the open market...
Are we talking $3,000? $5,000? $10,000? More?
After seeing Erich's, I may start hunting for one myself
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Ah, Troost honor temples...I have a story about a "scale model" of this building. about 10 years ago I was comisioned to do a 1/35 scale model of one of them...with the coffins!! I got original blueprints copys from the person who ask me to build it, black and white photos from every angle of the building and it's detail taken by the architect Troost atelier at the time of dedication I presume...exept the coffins, there are no detail picture of all of them or blueprints, I had to use photos from angles and oficial funtions during the period. In the cache of photos where about 4 of a scale model of the honor temple...in color and "modern" photo paper, as it turn out the original Troost atelier architectural model still exist in Germany as well as several of the new Reichschancellery by Albert Speer, like the honor curtyard entrance, street formal entrance and backyard Hitler office elevation...the one with the two horses in each side of the stairs. This are in storage and under lock and key in one of Germany archives BUT at least still exist!!!!!
I was told....well "ordered" not to make copys of the plans or photos and I could not take or use photos of MY MODEL IN ANY WAY for my portfollio...but since I was paid quite well I dind't mind at all Every once in a while I wonder what happened to that model of mine or where it is, I know the original owner sold it about 4 years ago.
Now, Erich if you could get that original achitectural model of the honor temple by Troost Atelier THAT would be one of the ultimate Third Reich art collectables......hey one can dream

A few years ago, I saw someone at a UK military fair walk away with one of these for £45.

If you're patient and lucky, you might find a bargain--Jon, you mean GBP and not $, correct? If so, that sounds about right. I paid around $350, if memory serves, for mine, but that was in the 80s, the long-time collector knew what it was and how scarce (and that I'd likely be sorry if I didn't buy it). So I did. Part of the problem, as opposed to other statuary and busts, is that it's quite fragile and the base is heavy. If it is dropped or even knocked over on a desk or table, the eagle and/or plaque is likely to break. So I suspect the survival rate is lower than that of more robust pieces.

I paid a lot more than 350.00 but as stated you would be hard pressed to find another. The cool thing about the statute is that it's so very close to the original. The artist did a great job with the script used for the Martyrs names for example. You may get lucky and find one cheap but you may pay more like me if one becomes available. Best, Erich
