One more Guys. Leutnant from 116.Pz.Div.Windhund.
Nice photo; but actually this is not a "real" M44 tunic but a modified 4 pocket tunic IMO. Nonetheless a nice and appropriate addition for this interesting thread!

I respectfully disagree. With a loupe I can see the triangular eagle application, the slanted litzen on the slightly oversized collar and can see no collar hook. He is wearing his belt a bit high concealing the waist arrangement also his cuffs appear turned up, perhaps it is a little large on him. Anyway, you are right that it belongs on this thread one way or the other.

OSS, I think you mis-read my post; I was referring to the photo of the officer in post #148. Probably because my reply was overdue in time since this photo was posted... Of course your latest addition is a right as rain M44.

          You are right, my apologies.

Nice photo OSS of an unquestionable M44 tunic, and quite a rare photo showing this tunic in wear most likely during wartime and not after capitulation, so many M44 photos show POW's with stripped eagles. Imo Zauberflöte is correct in his opinion on the tunic posted by 708.V.G.D. also.

Here is what I believe is a M44 that I found going through one of my boxes searching for some TDB photos for Lionel (708.V.G.D.). No breast or cap eagle present and it appears that he is wearing Polizei shoulder boards...post war?

Nice bonus photo Bill, Yes the police wore these tunics after VE day without eagle for some time while still employed fighting crime. other photos of this are posted in this thread. Thanks for posting this and the officer photo Bill, two great additions to this wonderful thread.

Nice shots of M-44s. The men all seem ill-at-ease, possibly prisoners.

                              OSS and Tom,
Thank you for the observations. I too found them a little stilted, but the other photos were a lot more relaxed, curious. I know it is off-topic, but here are some of the other shots with older uniform, they do seem less sombre, maybe they are just more relieved to be in captivity. I also note how heavily worn some of the belt buckles are.

And another couple. These photos do show how even M36 tunics lasted to the very end. There appears, unusually, to be some form of unit badge on the left collar of all of the soldiers pictured, but it is not easy to make out.
