      Hi Gerdan,

Thanks so this fellow with the helmet was Heinrich Wagn? Could the last name be Wagner? I ask because Wagn sounds unusual. Leihgestern was his hometown correct? Hmm he looks like an early Barbarossa casualty. Oh could the fw. have been the abbreviation Ufw. Unterfeldwebel?

as I could not identify more letter "Wagn..?" it could be that his name was Wagner.
But perhaps there were some other letters following "Wagner" ?

        Exactly, Leihgestern was his hometown.

The first letters from the word " ..fw." could be Unterfw. or Oberfw.

One shoud try to remove the album paper very carefully to read more, if possible.

You can find this Heinrich Wagner in the database of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge:

          Nachname: Wagner
          Vorname: Heinrich
          Dienstgrad: Oberfeldwebel
          Geburtsdatum: 20.09.1912
          Geburtsort: Leihgestern
          Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 29.07.1941
          Todes-/Vermisstenort: Gajworon

So you don’t have to remove the paper.

It looks more like "Gumpel" to me. Compare the "u" with that of "Hauptmann". Nevertheless you'd find both names in German.

                        Major´s Signature

                        Gentlemen,

                        any ideas on this signature?
My guess is SCHINTGROTH but that´s a wild one.
With the man being a major, it could well be a VON at the beginning?

Don´t be shy and thanks in advance,
                        taube.

A bit more of the whole autograph might help.

                          Etwas mehr bitte zum Buchstabenvergleichen.
