I can not explain why but if you google the name "Bantkow" will not find any result - not

even in the recent German phone book you find the name.

Gerdan - I noticed the same thing!

I think we all can agree on "B-a-n-t". To me, the next letter looks like a "k", similar to the one in Jakobstrasse, and then an "o" and a "w".

The only reference to Bantkow that I could find was a village in West Prussia.

I did find some folks named "Banthau" to include a prominent Swiss artist born in Hamburg. The other folks named Banthau also seemed to live in northern Germany. If Banthau was his last name, I wonder what our friend Georg was doing in a Württemberg regiment?

It's somewhat ironic that even with his beautiful handwriting, we are having so much trouble in deciphering his name.

I also found it touchingly ironic that Georg wrote, "This pain will pass!" (Auch dieser Schmerz wird vorübergehen!) It would, but only after three more years of bloodshed and devastation.

you can find Bantkow.

I found: Herme Bantkow, Peter Bantkow, Nikolai and Udo von Bantkow.

You must type it with the quotation marks: "bantkow"


And I can find several Banthau: Barbara, Lars, Karin, Jasmin, Rudi-Heinz

You should bring us some entries with "Bantkow" from our tiemes (recent phone book) in Germany.

There is not existing a noble family named "von Bantkow" today.

I think it is important, to show possible directions for a further research.

We are here in the year 1915, and not in 2012.

It is well known, that several names of persons are based on the name of their home villages; Bantkow was the name of old villages.
