Merdock-love the DAK paint on the skirt of your helmet.
JL- I have included a pic showing the cracks better. As the vet recounted "there were helmets laying all about but this one looked the neatest with the battle damage". I assume that the cracks were caused by a nearby explosion and with the dark staining on the tongues near the cracks it looks alot like blood. I have read on the WAF about blood test kits so perhaps I could get my hands on one. Not trying to be gory but I always like to know the real story behind an item the best I can. Thanks for you input.

Guys,
well, I just finished painting my mannequin and giving him a somewhat sunburn effect and re-dressed him, so what do you think ? I am working on building a wooden crate , which he will eventually sit on and it will have the DAK palm insignia stenciled on the side. Well, you have to give credit to the very talented Mark, code name NZMARK, from New Zealand. If you follow his steps on painting, then you should be fine. Just make sure that you get a good name brand airbrush. Grant.Comment

What a wonderful tunic, cap and the boots...EXCELLENT representation
So you're using an airbrush? Are you tinting the final glaze to give the sunburn effect or adding it into the initial mix?

Thank you for the nice comments. I am using an spray can paint made by Testor's Model Master line for the base coat to use over the whole head area, then I use the Airbrush with Model Master color- Skin Tone Shadow to do the area under and around the jaw line, eyes, nose, and back of ear area. Any place or areas where sweat and dirt might settle on your face and give you that dirty look. Last , I use the Model Master color -Skin Tone Warm Tint and I add a touch of red to it and mix. Then, I spray the areas where people would normally get sunburned. The high cheek bone area, the top and bridge line of the nose, top of ears, above the eye brow area, etc...
The High top boots are high quality repros and look good until I find originals. Besides, if I had originals, then I don't know if I would risk putting them over a mannequin's feet. I would be too afraid of tearing them, so high quality repros works for me. regards, GrantComment

Thanks, Here is another one in progress. I just threw on a tunic and hat to show the effect. Sorry about the flash, the face is not really that shiny, it has a dull look to it.
