    Pab

One of my favorite PAB's. I have had terrible luck trying to bring out the detail in this badge in a photo but the light was favorable today and it turned out OK.

        Back to headgear ...

This was an acquisition as a result of SOS. What really attracted me to this hat is the shape but also the "mouse grey" color. I have had an Artillery visor in my collection for some time from exactly the same maker -- and with this color doeskin wool on the top. They are really beautiful in this color and quite distinctive.

What Flak tunic is that, Adam?

Mark, thanks for the compliments. This is a very enjoyable hobby for me -- with its ups and downs, like everything else in life.

The Generalmajor's tunic is special in many ways and I feel lucky to have gotten it -- thanks to a fellow Forum member residing in Germany. It comes from a collector in Munich who bought it from the family.

The tunic is named to Generalmajor Guenther Ruedel (umlaut over the "u"). I love the early "Reichswehr cut" -- it was tailored in Berlin in 1929 when Ruedel was an Oberstleutnant. He had an Artillery background and was promoted to Generalmajor in 1934. The next year, he transferred to the Luftwaffe. As a former Luftwaffe collector, this makes it a real sizzler for me. Ruedel went on to be Inspector General of the Flakartillerie and worked for many years in the Air Ministry. He retired in 1942 as a Generalleutnant and has been mentioned as one of Goering's more capable officers. I suspect there was a falling out that year in Berlin.

He died in Munich in 1950. Here is a photo of him in Luftwaffe uniform.

I will have more photos when I can take some good ones.

Post 12 where you say 'more on that later.'

Maybe you don't have it anymore?

                      Adam,

OK -- I see now. No, that one has been gone a long time now.

                          Some more shots ...

Here are a few more images of the General's uniform. I really like the Reichswehr "cut" with the slash pockets, 8 buttons, and lighter green collar.

Since this uniform was tailored in 1929, it would not have had an Third Reich officer's breast eagle added until early 1933, when Ruedel was an Oberst. When he was promoted in November 1934, and he upgraded the uniform to a Generalmajor's, the General's breast eagle would have also replaced the other regular officer's eagle at that point. It is handsewn on but the photos do not do it justice.

                          Always something to learn ...

I have added an incorrect ribbon bar, just to had some sparkle for now, along with a WWI EK1, which Ruedel earned. I am having a reproduction ribbon bar made with Ruedel's awards as finding a proper one will be impossible. I did this with the Heggenreiner Waffenrock I have previously featured in this thread.

                            Some more photos ....

Here is another interesting feature ...

When you look at the shoulder boards, at first it appears there is some damage or mothing to the edges. Look at the photo below where I have held up the underlay -- it is carefully sewn to the edges of the board itself and thus has a "wavey" appearance. I like this.

The reproduction ribbon bar that will soon be affixed to Generalmajor Ruedel's uniform. This is the ribbon bar he would have worn in late 1934 and early 1935 while working at the RWM in Berlin and prior to his entry into the Luftwaffe.
