Sorry, I only know of one dealer who told me 'everyone' knew about them. It wasn't 'flatken' I spoke to.

Here's a Lorenzo cover that Francisco showed on GHW
It's a classic fake and they type shown to me by Lorenzo in person
You can easily see the stitching is wrong and that is made from a used zelt

Lorenzo loved to mark his covers with size stamps

I have said this many times before and it's something to consider...
SS was really hot for 10 years and demand outstripped supply.
Lorenzo seen this gap in the market and went for it producing covers at an alarming rate.
His execution was close but to a first or second time buyer seemed good.
Looking back at his work 10 years later it is easy to see the manufacturing errors like this perfect clip sewing that's nothing like war time sewing

I pulled these pics from the ones Francisco posted on GHW and were mentioned a few posts back by a member as controversial back in the day

Same goes for the Champagne Rune decal thing why did it take so long?

I'm inclined to think that several dealers knew or at least had doubts but didn't think twice to unload questionable items on unsuspecting collectors with less experience than Owen to recover their money....

I remember several years ago a lot of camo covers being posted by Italian member Francesco that were deemed fake, were those sold to him directly by Lorenz or came in his possession through other collectors?
I agree with what you say......I wonder too why it took so long.I think the reason is that the so called experts got fooled as we all have. After all we don't know everything.I see Kelly Hicks name come up a few times here but have not heard from him one way or the other.I can't help but wonder why jmo.

I have seen Lorenzo covers with Kellys COAs.

I have seen Bill S have Lorenzo helmet cover and to his credit removed it when informed at an SOS.

                  Loads of people got taken.

                    Hi,

the deafening silence of Killy Hicks, "specialist" of SS helmets...

It could be nice to make topics identifying the fakes included in the Beaver / Hicks / Lorenzo books.

if i remember only a very few fakes ("unknown patterns" if i'm right) were included in the four books of the late Michael D. Beaver ?

It could be interesting to do the same for the Lorenzo books...

                    See You

Kelly does not know cloth helmet covers.
I think he made an honest mistake.

Seems there is alot of debate about SS covers..

I seen these at the la Gleize Museum in december I took alot of pics some had these camo covers in
i have cropped the pics the oak fall side one is very odd..
Just thought this might help as a museum would not expect fakes or would they use some repos are fillers?

The first one is not original
The second is just a piece of camo covering helmet
The third one is an original Oak cover

                              Hi,

i know that one or two other items were discussed on the WAF (maybe a camo cap ?), but other members probably know more about them.

At least there is this one :

There was me thinking i was looking at some high end covers.

so most are fillers in there.. they have some nice stuff though
