I can provide some insight as to Ribbentrop's relationship with the SS. Ribbentrop was for the most part, a social climber and opportunist. A "pretty boy" from a "nice" family, who was, for all of his social-aspirations, looked down upon by most of the Nazi brass. He was known as a dolt, though his success in gaining Hitler's love until the last hours, casts doubt upon that. His IQ was 128, right in the middle of that of the rest of the Nuremberg crowd.
Himmler's party number was in the 1.1 millions, but his SS number was in the 60,000s, having been elevated to the rank of Standartenfuhrer by Himmler (yes, it was honorary). in 1933. Ribbentrop wore his SS uniforms proudly (as he did his SS sword, his ring, etc), until around 1939, soon after Germany invaded Poland. I think it was about 1941 that he had a falling out with Himmler over some foreign policy, and ceased to wear his SS uniforms, choosing exclusively the uniforms of the Diplomatic Corps. He was certainly no Waffen SS combat commander, which is why this uniform is a 4 pocket SS tunic.
For me personally, this tunic is everything I ever wanted in an SS tunic. Can't get a higher rank (other than Himmler of course, or a 3-pip), can't find a finer tailor than Holters, can't get better name recognition. And that staff band. Spend 30 seconds looking at it under a glass, and you will NEVER think twice about judging a fake one. It's extraordinary. I would however, rather have Sepp Dietrich's tunic, truth be told
