Bill,
Your friend has an outstanding collection and no mistake, that is serious hardcore material .
Two UZo / UDF's , two of them , I would be delighted with one ! Amazing.
The fat 8x60 , I am guessing is a CXN model , probably has a graticlue / cross hair in it, if so this alone is a very important set.
To top it all , the blinker 7x50 - now that is a rare baby - an amazingly rare set , few have seen one let alone ever owned one.
Great to see one !
BillI felt the need to genuflect and bow my head with each set he handed to me.
4 UBootglas and all in good order , the 8x60 leitz again mint order.
Delighted to see them and my thanks to your friend for allowing us a glimpse of what is a fantastic collection and not least to yourself for taking time to photograph them and post up the jepgs.
Very impressed with what are some rare and nicely conditioned binoculars. Gotta love those "birded ones " Excellent !
And before I forget - a slim commander - there is nothing this gent does not have - all the major important sets are there - delighted to see them !!
This is a major collection , put together by a man who knows his onions and appreciates quality items.
To say I am impressed is a major understatement , binoculars of this quality do not come along often and to see all the major sets together is rare indeed.Last edited by behblc; 09-13-2006, 04:56 PM.

WOW....
I can only echo Mike's and James comments about these. This has to be one of the most complete and impressive collections of Kriegsmarine optics I have ever seen.
This guy knows his stuff and just adding up the value of what has already been shown makes me cringe...
Thanks for showing us your friends collection and tell him that there are quite a few bino collectors that are very gratefull.
Mike, after getting the smooth ocular 7x50's off you I am now a little partial towards them. Nice collection of desireable bino's you have. It's a shame there aren't any major optics collectors in Australia (that I know of!)
Regards,
Brett

other optics info
Hi Guys,
Great discussion on optics, have followed it with interest, wow that collection is Mindblowing
Whilst we have cream of Wehrmacht Awards "Optical Bods" looking at this thread, I am still researching "non-binocular" optics.......see my original thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=optic
If anyone has any good sources of info for all the other types of optics out there for scherenfernrohrs, Fu30's, especially Richtkries's, periscopes (SR9-SR10), RunblickFernRohrs...especually the Pz. RBF 5a........or any other bunker type scopes or lower calibre scopes eg. PaK4.7 or PaKK4.7, 10.5cm, 3,7cm.
Please please share as there is so little info about these items out there at the moment.
Seegars and Rohans books are already in use but looking for more.
thanks guys for any help!
best regards
Grappener

I have two of this type , unfortunately the leatherette coverings on the leitz sets with age are prone to coming away from the body and end up dry and very fragile , one of my sets is now covering free...will get them re-covered in due course.
Is it possible to remove the metallplate with the optics ?? Seems someone ruind the screws before.Attached Files

The "N" on right side prism lid indicates "North Sea" use.
"N" is nautical number, its the booking number for the navy.
If "N" is North Sea, where are the others?? "O" for Ost Sea, "A" for Atlantic, etc etc etc
Was this N marking only used by Km ?? YES
Could number and markings be visible bakside of metall-plate?? NO
You can only try to find a good pics in the web and than you can do it new.

Pity
It is a pity that the plates have been defaced, it might be possible for an engraver to bring them up again if any trace of them remains.
In any case they will clean up well and look to be in good order, at the right money I would not have passed them but can only be bugged that they have been defaced, in any case a nice find.

The binos costed me around 5.50 € and for that money i guess i have to ok with, but it sure is an petty the plates been grinded down.I think that someone who actully used the binos post war did the job,and a good one to im affraid.
