I've been searching to see if there's some sort of designation for the type of backpack parachute FW-190 pilots wore? The only pictures I've seen are the couple in Mick Prodger's book and these from the "Collect Russia" website:

I'm also curious about the aluminum tray the pack sits in, what was the reason for it? Seems like, unless it's an armored item, it would be very uncomfortable and awkward.

Here's a chute I have on my display, along with a close-up of the tag. The model appears to be "10-9 E1".

Thanks Kevin for the designation number.

Nice display too. Any idea about the need for the tray?

The FW-190 pilot's seat has a "shelf" designed to support the backpack, but I don't know if that led to this particular model's design.

Bob, I don't know exactly why the aluminum tray was employed. It certainly gives the chute and harness a sturdy structure to tie into.

Guido, definitely looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

                              Regards,
