I don’t think ZAM has changed his mind. He looked for advice and explanation of what he saw, was rather abruptly corrected, and unfortunately called insulting and rather childish names more than once.

This thread is a classic example of groupthink. Gang up and attack the dissenter regardless of evidence and a sound argument presented. Exactly the same thing happened to me when I challenged and exposed the bogus crown-stamped Imperial Juncker flight badges, which are now also now universally accepted as fakes.

It speaks positively about ZAM’s character that he was able to move past what happened in this thread and is still a WAF member.

Apparently Kelly Hicks & Bob Coleman have not changed their mind.

Nor have those who are posting on the heavily monitored thread about the possibility of real champagne decals existing changed their mind.

Nor has anyone who badgered Zam posted an apology to him on this thread.

No effort is being made to determine who painted and foisted the fakes on the community.

In reality, nothing much has changed.

This is a sad thread. Evidence of exactly what happens when minds are closed and opinions made up, no matter what is shown.
          Looking for a 30 '06 Chauchat magazine.

Now now old chap you're painting a very bleak picture there.

Kelly and Bob can hold whatever views they want it's up to them. They have been invited to post what they believe to be original examples on Willis thread, let's see if they do so.

Same goes for everyone else really, they are entitled to their opinions but Doug has raised the bar and a bit more proof is now required to justify those opinions.

Doug has acknowledged Zams excellent obversations and only Zam knows who reached out to him over this matter.

As for nothing being done about finding out who dunnit, Doug stated that a conversation was had between someone other than Doug and a guy who admitted to doing this. He also said that he thought more detail about the CH spray job would be forthcoming in the eagerly awaited new book on decals. A lot of people seem to miss those two points.

The guy in the frame for this has been named several times but I have no proof so I'm not going to follow suit.

I know it all seems to have gone quiet but one COA has been honoured and more info might be forthcoming, the tools available to us to establish authenticity have been tested and some have come through with flying colours, others didn't pass muster.

Doug has put forward a theory, that CH decals are actually spray jobs and his conclusion is that this makes them post war. That theory makes a prediction which can be tested, that all CH decals are actually sprayed on. The challenge has been made to those who believe there are originals out there to show some examples they believe to be original. They would have to be decals in order for Dougs theory to be disproved. This takes time. It is also in the nature of theories that they can never actually be proved true but only falsified. Frustrating as it is this means those who believe in these can always claim that there is an undiscovered example out there would disprove Dougs theory and this claim would be valid. This is how scientific knowledge evolves, and this is the situation we find ourselves in. But I don't think that it all adds up to nothing having really changed, I honestly think a lot has changed!!

It's a case of wait and see though for a while, that's certainly true.

            Cheers
            Dom

                      Not so...much has changed.

                      1. The myth of the CH runes has been exposed.

                      2. The myth of the supreme "wizard" know it all is over.

                      3. ET, Q, EF, Pocher, decals just got better !

                      4. We now know more about decals than ever.

                      5. The hobby has nicely weathered difficult economic times and is poised to move forward.

Lastly, we are in better shape than ever... get out there buy some helmets and have some FUN again !

Just don't buy the helmet I want !!!

I'd say minus a few people that constitutes "Just about everyone"
I never badgered or insulted Zam and have admitted to him via PM that he was right and i was wrong.
I'd say a lot has changed on the subject.

Paul, you remember our discussion with Ty and Tom the time you were at the SOS? Many years ago. We talked about how we considered champagne runes were fake and the reasons for that. Granted we drank a lot of beer, but do you remember?
