    Hi,

Nor has anyone who badgered Zam posted an apology to him on this thread.

No effort is being made to determine who painted and foisted the fakes on the community.

In reality, nothing much has changed.
    Something HAS changed :

    - DougB, the second messenger (the first being ZAM) removed his study, disappeared from the internet (or so), and started to sell his impressive collection;

    - Hicks and his mafia (seemed that many people know who the 2 to 3 guys who made the helmets for decades are, as far i saw on various other messageboards on the net) played the perfect hypocritical crisis communication form that most of the time unfortunately works : deny ad nauseam or/and then play dead.

They know that it will be almost impossible to prove anything, as too many dealers were involved, and that they still can say that "somewhere on Earth there is an Island with REAL CH runes SS helmets and that they saw some originals in the past etc etc".

They also know that 99% of the collectors BELIEVE what the "Gods/experts" say, and that they know nothing themselves...
And 99% of the collectors that were fooled are not on the internet, and never heard of the study of DougB.

Many collectors are trying to get history right (fakes vs. originals), but most of the experts and dealers are here for the money, nothing else.
No matter if they trick people and they knew from the start that they are selling fakes...

    See You

    Vince

Sadly this lesson will be forgotten. It's happened before and it will happen again.

Vince yes Doug sold off his collection, but the helmets in question if he had any I doubt went as originals.

Kelly, may I suggest you might wish to add some commas for clarity? Do you mean:

Vince, yes Doug sold off his collection, but the helmets in question, if he had any, I doubt went as originals.

If so then that would be correct. Doug tracked down and bought back any SS Sham-Pain helmets that he had owned previously. On one or more he destroyed the decals doing his analysis, the others probably ended up with a pick though the top. And I can see him doing it. Every item Doug let go in his Wildfire liquidation, down to the last button, was original. Rest assured.

So sad that the info on those decals spoiled his collecting ambition for SS helmets. I knew he would do what it took to make things right.

It was also very selfish for him to delete all of the lot numbers and post that some had good information in.
I am no longer working as a dealer for a living so I don't care about being diplomatic. On the Champagne rune decals, I have only owned one which I bought from Tom Kibler. We all know he is very knowledgeable and very honest. Actually, one of the most honest people I have ever known. That M40 was different then any other CR decal I have seen and I felt very comfortable with it.
Like my experiences or not, those are my beliefs.

Very Correct....Doug B is a super person with a fine eye for helmets. He is greatly missed and made huge contributions to our hobby. His research on CH runic decals is very important to our hobby and opened all of our eyes.

                      Doug connected the dots !!

Come'on back Doug, see you at SOS !

Well said guys. Doug was a positive influence to the collective knowledge of our hobby. He has always been a good friend and is honest and generous to a fault. It is unfortunate that he has decided to stop participating.

It sounds like to me he got tired of all the BS and the fakes so he decided to sell his great collection and make some good money and leave.....sometimes enough is enough..It sounds like he made all the right moves in selling his collection,I wish him good luck
                            in the future.
