    SS helmet on e-stand

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=572716

    Hello fellow collectors.

I saw this helmet on e-stand, a nice helmet on the first look, but on the second look it looks like the "decals" are airbrushed!

You can see it on the decals, i marked the areas where the paint was flewn/ sprayed under the tape...

I think you might be too. The masking of the left hand seigrune doesn't match when you compare the base of the top bar of each. The left hand one isn't as sharp as the right hand, its more of a curve up to the where it joins the bottom bar of the rune (I think that makes sense) You can really notice the overspray on the inner arms of the swastika

If this is true, it really begs the question:

Is there any point owning an SS helmet? (Unless your 90-year old WW2 veteran neighbour handed it to you personally and has a period photograph of him cutting it off the guy's head?

                I think not.

That should apply not only to SS helmets, but actually everything with SS.

This helmets shows how good the fakers are, and if they are this good at decals, how good are they on for example uniforms?

I hope the owner of this helmet can help to trace it back to the faker.......

I hadn't followed the link back to this helmet until just now. That is scary because it looks like it could join the three photographed together in a very recent thread. If the seller hadn't posted the close ups you wouldn't have picked it. I wonder if the seller is aware of this thread yet?

Sorry Sherlock Holmes, but what you are looking at is a textbook "NS" champagne runic SS decal. This decal is what you expect to see on NS shells. The marks you see are from scuffs from over the years........ 70 years! Any real SS collector will tell you that's a genuine SS decal. I give it a BIG thumbs up!

                      regards
                      Samir

Honestly besides the black dots (That could be from anything...) I do not see too much to be alarmed with the decals, unless I am missing something. If Nick wants to change Euros to USD........

As a serious question, why are these decals on the three so crisp and the ones on this look like they've been sprayed?

                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=575588

Is this a different type of decal. Not picking fights just trying to learn. As a modeller this looks sprayed to me BUT it could well be part of the decal construction process, so all explanations will be helpful.

I have handled this one multiple times. This one is textbook all the way.

Nick is at work at the moment I guess. He will comment on this thread for sure this evening
