I expect the " Restoration " will be a clean, tidy and paint job they just dont have the money to buy the parts needed and there isnt the local interest to spend any real money on it sadly

They could buy a Replica panther like that one built on a T55 donor tank and put that there in its place...aslong as it looks like a panther then that will be good enough for most

So the task of restoration would be completely eliminated .
What was the problem to disassemble the turret interior before lifting the turret?
They broked all the details that they could broke. Fantastic job.

i am suprised that anyone thought the panther would be restored just the cost of a external restoration would be crazy money with all the missing bits wheels, tracks swing axles and engine grill castings needed plus the damaged parts like the torsion bars 1200-1500 euros each and that is just to make it look ok from the outside and to make it run you can add several mill euros to that.maybe you could just about get a panther if you combine the Grandmenil,Celles with the Houffalize one together as was talked about some years back but no chance of that

Criminal? Worry more about what your government is doing.
I visited this Panther, and I hate to see what is being done to it. But, I suspect less that .01% of the population of Belgium, or any country for that matter, would give this matter a second of thought. We have to get real.Willi

Folks,
You have to understand that to people in Houffalize, at least those who remember or care to history, this Panther is a monument, not a museum artifact. For others , it is a tourist magnet that brings revenue to their business.
I guess the town of Houffalize is in a hurry to get it back in place.
Imagine La Gleize without the TigerII ??

panther monument
hi all
From paintings of the masters they make copies as well and these will be put in museums while the genuine ones are kept in a vault. ( to prevent theft)
They should make a polyester replica Panther ( like the Munster Tiger I) and put that on a concrete plint in Houffalize. The genuine stuff should be restored properly and kept and be preserved in best conditions for future generations.
Another 70 years in the open won't do it any good.
I must admit the engine looks pretty good ...the rockers don't seem to have suffered from corrosion.
I'm very curious to see what this restoration wil render ...I don't think they will search to find 32 wheels ....they don't have that kind of cash to buy these now. Hopefully they already have all these missing parts.
Cheers
Bullitt
