I bet it is not returned. That is how these matters generally turn out. I hope not though.

For me, the joy was to see these steel monsters on the battlefields they fought on. While lousy paintwork and missing components always bothered me, I could live with that. Does anyone really think people will care about these things in 50 years?

      Hi,

this Panther is worth a few thousand if not millions of euros, so if they don't care about it, they are really really stupid people.

      See You

        Willi,

We'll see. The tank is owned by the town of Houffalize. It will be overhauled at the Bastogne barracks (part of the Royal Museum of the Army). They do really great jobs. Don't think they are going to keep it (but there is Always a possibility)

            Bummer. Looks like I'll be by-passing Houffalize this Fall . . .

On their Facebook page it says they are returning it to Houffalize when it's finished.

Interior pics (kindly furnished by the Houffalize town hall). Tower & gun still in quite good condition. But the rest...

Interesting to note how they had taken off the Zimmerit in the initial restoration. Also to see that jagged hole in the bottom of the hull.

It deserves to go back to Houfalize. Some might see it as militaristic but I see it as part of the history of the town and its liberation. As well as a lasting memorial to the soldiers of all nationalities who perished there.

                            Thanks for posting.

                              Great pics
It looks like a trashbelt inside.
