Thanks Jon, I think that their were possibly three plaques in this series.

Guys, did they ever incorporate the second plaque listing the police dead into any of the Mahnmal examples?

No, only the 16 martyrs were listed on the Mahnmal.

Erich, is there any way to date these Mahnmal items? Do they pre-date the list of police dead added to the FHH? When was that plaque added?

That's a good question Joe, my thought is that the Police plaque predates the Mahnmal because it was erected by the city of Munich and not the NSDAP. These Mahnmal items were probably produced in the mid 30's.

It was? That is very interesting. Do you have a source date. I thought the police plaque incorporates some NSDAP info and was attached "after-the-fact" as a sop. Can't remember it clearly. Will check "After the Battle" issue.

Correction, Joe, you are correct regarding thePolice plaque. According to the Military Advisor article on the Mahnmal, the Mahnmal was dedicated in 1933 and the Police plaque was put up in 1934 by the Party who stated that the Police killled on the 9th of November were killed by the same evil system as the Martyrs. Again, sorry for the incorect information.

I thought so. I only found one photo documenting this time lag in erecting the plaque on page 8 of this lengthy and excellent thread submitted by TerryG:

I have had documentation for some time from a copy of an undated French language publication of the City of Munich. This one is nicely done in color. Are the mounting holes still in the wall for the police plaque and is the base of the Mahnmal still there?

When I visited the Feldherrnhalle in May of 1999 the NSDAP Mahnmal and the Police Plaque were long gone, of course, but one could still see telltale signs of them if you knew what you were looking for and where to look. When standing in the archway of the FHH looking down upon the "Point of Honor," you could still see the faint outline of where the large base stone of the Mahnmal once sat -- the memorial was in place there long enough to have had an impact upon the coloring of the stone surface of the FHH flooring stone -- and you could still see the four holes where the Police Plaque was mounted to the retaining wall of the FHH portico. As I understand it, the Police Plaque read, in German: “And from the state police: Rudolf Schraut, Friedrich Fink, Nikol Hollweg, Max Schoberth".

As an aside, when I was there, both the FHH and the Temples of Honor on the Königsplatz were in filthy condition, unmaintained either by the City of Munich or the surrounding businesses and littered with trash. Very sad to see.
