    Bill,

Not so often seen...how about almost never seen. Very, very rare boards. Superb photo, many thanks for sharing with us.

      Nice Photo!

      12th Panzer,
Nice photo and I once had a single strap to this same school. I am still at a loss where this school was located (see link below).

      http://www.diedeutschewehrmacht.de/

Maybe someone (Panzer Bob, hint, hint) with Ritgen's old short run book on the Panzer schools can wade in on the location?
      Best regards,
      Mike

        hi Richard and Mike,
I know, I was excited when I got this one. I had seen another portrait a couple of years ago with the Panzer 'US' boards, but that was in someone elses collection, so when I saw this...I jumped on it.

Mike, I may be wrong, but I believe the field schule was in Dahlhausen, which is what the "D" stood for under the 'US'. This is what I had thought anyway. Thats awesome that you actually had this board/cypher at one time.

P.S.- His full name is wrritten on the back, I just need to get some help translating it, since it is really bad handwriting (to me).

Mike, I forgot to say thanks for the link. I use that site often actually. I had never seen the schule part tho. I thought there was a Feld USchule in Dahlhausen!?

At first I thought it was "D" for Dahlhausen cypher, but now I think it looks like the symbol for "P" Putlos now. Hopefully someone can give a hand, as I am second guessing myself now....

Here is a pic, so my posts arent as annoying! haha

Nice pic. Note that it's a rarely seen Panzer III Ausf. N with short-barrel 75mm, which dates this photo to 1943 at the earliest [Edit: I know the Ausf N appeared in late 1942 but the lack of snow suggests it was taken later].

Which arm shield is he wearing?

Hey Thanks for the kind words Kev! But to be honest, I could only hope to have as nice Panzer portraits/photos as guys like Jacques, PZV, portraithunter, mister X, etc etc. But Im very glad that you enjoy them!

Thanks Jason, yes it is the ausf N w/ 75mm L/24. He wears a drivers badge, and I think Krim, but it could very well be the Kuban.

And for the Unteroffizierschule photo, embarrasingly it isnt Putlos...most likely Eisenach

Panzer Oberschutze with Reiterabzeichens, 2 variants

(Im looking into the originality of this one, as it doesnt sit right with me for some reason. Maybe Im just getting too paranoid nowadays..)

                        Bill,

I think the photo looks plausible as it may be prewar given the piped collar and low rank. A likely transfer fresh out of the cavalry. Food for thought....great photo.

                          Period to me

                          Another Great photo 12th Panzer!
IMHO with the wear of the black Panzer Feldmütze I would say that dates this photo post 1940. And what a nice branch color piped Feldmütze it is!
                          Keep this thread going!!!
                          Best regards,

Nothing wrong with this - no need to be paranoid.

                              Very Nice SAA 185 picture,
                              Thanks for sharing.
With what appears to be sewn in and sewn down shoulder straps.

                                Hi Richard and Mike,
Yes I agree that the wear of the badges/etc are acceptable. (except for the non-reg piping on the feldmutze, which is great!)haha
But I was actually meaning the photo paper this image was on unfortunately. I have bad feelings about it, as the serrated edges cannot be matched to any other examples in my collection and it does show minor glow under UV light. First pic Ive been burned on in a long time. The seller did not show the edges/reverse in the sales ad, so I took a gamble buying it.... Owell, a great uniform study anyway.

John, Absolutely!....straps certainly look to be sewn down on the SAA 185 pic.

Naxos- A great portrait, as usual! Thanks for sharing that
