Panzer berets were largely put out of use by January '41 so before or around that time. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable Panzer enthusiasts on the forum can chime in.

excellent photo Bill. Certainly a numbered PAB

And I agree with Bryants opinion of the date. He seems to be wearing a 2nd pattern wrap ( 2nd pattern- 1936 and not altered again until end of 42' I believe)

A Nachrichten man from Panzer Regiment 35.

Note the M42 cap and 3rd pattern wrap (w/no piping). What I thought was neat was the rank pip instead of the usual arm chevron

This one might be a miss for me. The finish on the photo looks a little artificial. At any rate it is a nice period image.

That is neat Bill, a not often seen rank of Oberschütze! A fine photo to be sure. it looks to me like the rank patch is sewn overlapping the Blitz, can you tell if that is the case? if so it would be sloppy and frowned upon today by collectors....

                                Hey Kevin,
I didnt notice that, but after looking closely.....I honestly dont think it overlaps, but it is certainly sewn perfectly snug to the signals patch...with a good chance that both cloth pieces are touching each other. Good observation!
