    In an other connection I found a memory page dealing with a soldier who also died in the

    Kriegslazarett 1/581 - Smolensk. So the cemetery shown on your photo is Smolensk

      Reading Black Edelweiss now and he states when the Finn's capitulated and the Germans left Finland/Russia, they removed all markers and decorations from the company cemetery leaving all graves unmarked. Sad....

        This was probably due to their fear the Russians would desecrate the German graves. It was very sad.

          Taken somewhere in France, possibly near Paris as indicated by other photos in the lot this was part of, but not too sure. Any guess as to where this is?

            It should be the photo of a cemetery taken some years after the war's end (WW1 I think) because

            the cemetery is systematically built with all crosses from the same type and exactly planned.

            Such cemeteries usually you find in France e. g. in the Verdun area.
