Thanks for the information. I kind of thought his first name was Johannes as Hans is the usual abbreviation or nickname isn't? Since he lost his life in Italy, the children would obviously be Italian. Of course I didn't know that, till you told me where he died. Interesting that he was called the Lion of Capuzzo. So sad that such a brave man died in a stupid car crash.

Difficult to read the right name, may be "Hermann Brenner" or Bronner (?).

May be this is the guy. I found him in the Volksbund list.

                Nachname:Brenner
                Vorname:Hermann
                Dienstgrad:Obergefreiter
                Geburtsdatum:19.08.1920
                Geburtsort:Hohenstaufen
                Todes-/Vermisstendatum:22.02.1943
                Todes-/Vermisstenort:H.V.Pl. südw. Kukujewa

Could you exactly read the date he was KIA ?

There are also other Hermann Brenner in the Volksbund list who could be the guy you are looking for.

                  Gerdan,
                  thanks for the reply.
No chance to read the exact name or date on the photo. It´s too small and my old eyes, haha.
Do you find something about the unit? My grandfather was in 14.Gren.Rgt.347
                  Maybe that helps?!
