              Hello Mike,
Thanks for a very nice sequence, the guy certainly
              got the works....

I wonder if any of those shown, both German and french, survived
the events in Caen a couple of years later.

              John.

Thanks John, I always wonder about the individuals in the photos I collect. This is Caen in the quit before the storm.
Thanks again and glad you enjoyed.

                    Nice photos Mike,
Do you have any specifics of where the burial took place? Any village names for example?

Here is a photo of a battle field grave site in Witebsk, Welish, USSR in 1942. Buried here are soldiers of 2 Kp. Inf. Btl. 550. The Penal Batalion. The grave on the left, Schtz. KARL HOFBAUER is my uncle.

                              Neat picture AB.
                              Thanks for posting.....

For German purposes, what did the penal Units do ?
Not on a par with Russian mineclearing squads, IE: marching over them.

But was it hazardous duties? or dangerous combat missions. ?

Hi Andrew, just curious was your Uncles body ever repatriated to Germany for a proper burial, or is it still somewhere in Russia
                                Thanks,
                                Bill
