                    Picked up a small konvolut of German POW photos and this one was in the group. POW wearing a M44 and another wearing a Panzer Wrap at a camp in Wettin (Saar) 1945

                        Here is another picture dated from March 1944.

                        Interesting to see that the Litzen have been sewn as a rectangle, probably to save time.

                        The M44 breast eagle seems to be a rather dark version, if not black.

                            Hi, that's a very early photo for an M44, perhaps he was a member of one of the (several) units that were trialling the uniform before general issue?

                            Also, the litzen shape is almost identical to that in post 1 of this thread.

                              Evidently some soldiers who fought in the M-44 tunic died wearing one. This soldier reportedly was also issued an MP-44 which was brought back with a no decal M-42 helmet as souvenirs by the US soldier who took this photo. Thanks to member all1knew.
