They all belong to the same unit and are taken in Russia and Lithuania.

Really interesting. We see Pz.Rgt.35 standing bear, but the split square on the shield is not for 4.Panzer-Division as far as I know... It could be a Armeekorps sign but!

                Hi,

I believe that the "Schmitz-Thies" is wrong here. I would the character,
just like Akira, Assign a unit belonging to the level Division and higher.
This also "proves" the photo of the artillery unit.

Tilted flag, with a cross in the middle!

It is not a “split square on the shield,” It's a tilted flag, with a cross in the middle. Note the flagpole base.

                    Hi Russ,

It's a tilted flag, with a cross in the middle.
just right, so we see the example in the appendix
Do you have an idea to which unit the "flag" belongs?

So are we looking at a new insignia for 4 PD ? The four quarters on the flag might be why they chose it I suppose.

The shield is that of Würzburg

The shield is that of Würzburg where the 4. Panzer Division was raised. It is the divisional sign.

That is an even better reason then.

Is there a date or location for these photographs ?

Richard, I'm stuck with this Hummel-Hummel sign of a sfl artillery unit. Do you happen to know the unit?

My photo says 910 according to a book, but it was not the case when I got information on the unit...

                                Hi Akira.
I’ve never seen a Sd-Kfz.165 "Hummel" in Heeres-Art-Abt, this is one Arty for Division.

I think the marking "Hummel Hummel" is a personal Marking in connection with the name "Hummel" of the véhicule.
