staff car markings

Hi all,

I have this photo of a wehrmacht staff car of a Lehr unit, any thoughts on the pennant and unit sign, looks like an mirrored questionmark with an arrow at the bottom,

Hi Presto,

it looks like something does not fit here.
The "Truppenkennzeichen" belongs in the style to an Lw-Signal unit.
The nummber plate WH-160854 belongs to a "Heeres" unit !

Does some parts of the bike not belong together ?

Thanks for your response which I almost missed( I'm not familiar with how this site works yet!)

Yes, I agree that there seems to be a mismatch. The frame is 1936 but the number sequence of the engine indicates a year earlier. There is no doubt though that most of the paint is original. The tank has had a top coat of grey primer though which I shall try and remove.

Do you know of any sources in Germany of information on the tank emblem? A military museum perhaps?

There is a presto bike on German ebay at the moment with some interesting information. The item no. is 181070801167.

Hans, your car belongs to the battalion HQ of a Pionier Btln, the double arrow is for the Pi and the two "wheels" indicate a motorised unit, the pennat indicates HQ element. Sadly I don't recognise the unit insignia on themudguard but I can say that it isn't the L from Pz Lehr Division. The L on the command pannat does indicate Lehr of course.

I wonder if anyone recognizes the sign on this MarderIII M. The still is from footage made in the Italian theatre. It reminds me of the emblem of Reichsführer SS but I have another pic of a MarderIII, which was probably from this unit, and this vehicle sports conspicuous SS-runes on the sides of the fighting compartment.




I also wonder if anyone knows which unit "Sultana" belonged to (well-known colour pic of a MarderIII M, also in Italy). Last year I came across another pic from the same unit and judging from the crewmember's uniform this was a Heeres unit.

Finally I wonder if anyone can identify the unit these Marders belonged to (well-known sequence, probably taken in September 1943):

I have this ring. It was found in battle area near Leningrad, nowadays it is Saint Petersburg. There are mark 333 and division or batalion emblem. Nobody has pictures or more detailed information about the emblem and the division????
