Everybody some good news and bad news,
i have had some contact with Andrew and he is fine , he's just been taking a break from things, but the bad news Ernst Barkmann has passed away.

I have been to is burial, there where some vets present, who placed some flowers with a black ribbon reading "The veterans of the 1st Panzerkorps", and showing the key-symbol of the LAH, on his grave.
Not even 2 hours later this ribbon was already stolen by some "collectors" - what a way to honor a brave man.

Ernst Barkmann
Oh, what sad news about Ernst. So shortly before his birthday.
The last time I saw him was at the Julfest of the Hamburg HIAG on December 17, 2002, shortly before I moved to Mexico.
He told me that, if he would have had that opportunity back then, he would have done the same thing and move to Mexico!
He was a special friend of Theo Wisch, whose life I collect.
Really sad to hear that he has gone.
And I spit on the poor collectors who robbed that EUR 7.- ribbon.
What a poor character do you have to have?

Julfest in The "Remper" restaurant in Hamburg.

Arek, most of his stuff has "disappered" over the last years, before his family got aware of that, and before they had an idea of the value (see thread "Ernst Barkmann´s fotoalbum stolen"). He'll helped me for years and wrote the foreword to volume 2 of my German Cross in Gold holders of the SS and Police series. He will be deeply missed.Comment
