              After the battle, the stug was abandoned after it was sabotaged. This famous photo was taken by a photographer for LIFE newspaper. Glorious end of a great warrior...

                      Wow what a fantastic historical thread thank you Marco and other members for such a wonderful job. I have some RSI postal stamps that illustrate the Abbey in Monte Cassino perhaps you have seen it if not I will post them when I get a chance.

                                Marco thank you for taking the time to post those great photos. I think some of the photos in the begining are of Canadian troops. If I recall I just read a book a few months ago written by a Canadian who faught in that battle and some of those photos were in his book I'd as Canadian troops.

                                Some of the photos of the French troops with 1903 Springfield rifles would be of interest to the folks on the CSP 1903 Springfield forum site. Namely photos #43, 46 & 52 . This is the site. http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=80

                                Would it be possible for you to post these photos there, or possible allow me to do so and identified as your photos. I think they would appreciate it. Of course I will fully understand if you don't wish to do so, Ray
