I agree that a blue jacket with green breaches seems odd. But we also have the fact that the entire German police force had a standard uniform of green jacket and khaki trousers for more than 20 years. To me this is equally "odd", therefore I would not be surprised to find other "odd" color combinations in use in older times.

Another one I couldn't quite afford. Of the three items in the auction two of them are quite rare. The cardboard box the schako came in and the cloth cover for the schako. I have never seen a box for sale before and only one other cloth cover.

        Regards,

        Gordon

Gorgeous! Yeah, I imagine that went for big bucks. I've only managed to purchase one Schako at a price I thought was reasonable. They are in heavy demand, obviously.

              Steve,

The price of schakos is really a good illustration in supply and demand driving prices. As soon as polizei stopped wearing the schako the price doubled and has been steadily climbing ever since.

                Gordon,
thanks for the pic of the cover. Have only seen in period photos. Interesting, that cover fit over the Kokarde, instead of the hole for it, like imperial tschakos.

                regards

                  Gents,

This picture was advertised as depicting an East German KVP, but upon arrival, I quickly determined that our friend Karl-Heinz was a Wessie Schupo.

One thing that surprised me about the photo was the date. I would have placed this setting in the mid to late fifties. In fact, the photo is dated March 1946.

In any event, I present Karl-Heinz on his wedding day for your viewing pleasure.

                  All the best,
                  TJ

Are there any more details to be gleaned from the writing on the back?

Unfortunately, the studio hallmark and labeling are absent.

                    All the best,

                      TJ,

Can you make out what the emblem is on the polizei star on the visor cap?

                      Blessings,

                      Gordon

                        Gentlemen,

The latest addition to my West German polizei uniform collection. A tunic as two shirts from the early days of the Hessen polizei. The tunics use a material that was used by TR polizei. I don't know if this is left over material from TR days or newly manufactured stuff but not commonly found for sale. The dark green shirt was obviously made for wear with this tunic as it has the same "yellow" flecks in the material. The light green shirt was probably worn with a service tunic. I don't know if this tunic was for field wear only or produced for summer wear. Perhaps SCHUPO can help here.
I'm not sure of the rank either. Other police forces, in the same time frame, used similar bars on the lower sleeve to indicate rank but they were silver for lower grades and gold for higher. I haven't seen the bars in green before I bought this tunic. If this were the euivalent of two silver bars it would be for the rank of Polizei Meister.

#3 there are no markings in the tunic. There is a small white tag at the neck on the shirt with a red 40 on it.
