    Gordon:
Are there also the clip(s) on inside left lower pocket? They are supposed to fit pistol holster without belt as well. I was wondering what that slit was for. What rank is your tunic? I cannot see the patch in photo.

Interesting to see that my officer's tunic is not any better construction than EM version except for the fact that it is tailored for individual officer.

    regards
    Klaus

      Klaus,

No there are no clips inside the pocket. I assume when the holster is worn this way it must be supported by a belt worn around the waist inside the coat or possibly some kind of harness but I do not really know. I think the pistol and holster would be too heavy to attache them to clips on the coat. The holster would have to be suspended from the belt/harness in such a way as to hang out side the tunic. The Feldjaeger wear a white holster that is supended from their belts rather thanattched on the belt as we are used to seeing holster worn. I have a picture of this type of holster in wear but it is too dark in my house tonight to take a picture of it. I tried but the pictures were all blurry. I'll try again tomorrow.
One thing I didn't mention earlier is that the pocket flap has the button attached with a split ring instead of having the button sewn to the tunic. The pocket is still usable but I doubt that anyone would put something in it with a holstered pistol resting on top of it.
This tunic appears never to have been issued/worn and there is no indication that there ever was a rank patch on the right sleeve.

      Regards,

      Gordon

Here is the picture I mentioned in my previous post about how the Feldjaeger wore their holsters. I know this is on the wrong side and I am not suggesting that this particular arrangement would be worn under a police tunic. The point I am trying to make is that the holster would have to be suspended from whatever arrangement is used beneath the tunic to attach it to the body but still he able to hang on the outside of the tunic. Since the holster would be hanging below the waist it would need something like the two straps shown on this holster to position it correctly on the lower pocket.

        Regards,

        Gordon

          Hi Gordon,

The pistol holster harness you are talking about is as you describe. I have one marked to the Gendarmerie that has cloth straps which go over/around the shoulders and have a leather sling with clips. The holster can then be attached to the harness by the clips or by putting the leather sling through the belt loop on the back of the holster. It is a complilcated arrangement that can allow the holster to be worn on a regular belt on the outside of the tunic or the trouser belt, I suppose, if the tunic is not worn. It also allows the hang of the holster to be adjusted for the height of the wearer.

          George.

My officer tunic does have such a clip and that is what someone (I think it was Huntzmann?) told me it was for clip pistol to earlier in the thread. It was the thing that look like dagger hanger and really puzzled us. Remember the debate about it?

Gordon - You've been quiet for a while. Glad to see you posting again.

Thanks for the nice shots of the BRD Polizei uniforms.

              Take care - TJ

                TJ,

We were away for the month of August on Holidays and moved to a new apartment a week before we went on holidays. I've been trying to find things in my collection of "boxes" ever since. Took 6 weeks to get my internet connection back up and running and 8 weks for a phone line.

                Regards,

                  Klaus,
I remeber the discussion but not the resolution. I went back through the thread and couldn't find it again.
Huntzman seems to know his stuff so I would be inclined to take his word for it if he said the clip was for a pistol holster. It doesn't sound like a very comfortable way to wear the holstered pistol. It would certainly pull the tunic over to one side but people will try anything that seems like a good idea at the time.

                  Regards,

                  Gordon

One more hat I forgot to post. It is from Schleswig-holstein and is for an enlisted man's rank. It appears to be from the same time frame as the ones I recnetly posted and is also made by Carl Isken. This one however is green with a darker green piping. Another different between this visor hat and the previous ones is that while the visor is black on top like the others it is green on the bottom. The sweat band is leather and the hat has seen considerable wear.

                    Regards,

Gents - Manion's is now carrying this unidentified city police cap and a complete Rhineland Palatinate Water Police Uniform (next post).

The cockade is not the typical Federal roundel, but one from a city or Lander (dark blue & gold).

A very jaunty, nautical air presented by this ensemble.

The hat is a Bavarian Stadtpolizei hat frrom the city of Augsburg worn till October 1973 when the department was merged into the Bavarian State Police. Bavaria police wore the blue cockade.

I have always believed that the WSP items were greatly under appreciated.

Thanks for the nod, although I am still only a student of a very large field.

To shed some light on this, there were actually several different versions of this ensemble. I assume as time went by their tried to fix the issues related to being a cumbersome method of carry.

I have physically seen the following setups:

                                1. clips attached directly to the tunic pocket
                                2. Duty belt attachment with clips that allows the weight to be distributed on the belt.
                                3. shoulder harness rig attachment that allows the weight to be distributed along the shoulders.

It is clearly apparent that the police in Germany have never faired well when it came to the duty rig like we have in the states.
