Any DAK items
Hello,
Dave, thank you for the additional photos. Perhaps your man was with 15th panzer (Generalmajor Frhr. von Esebeck commander: April 15 - July 25, 1941 - wounded at Tobruk front)? Do the vehicles have any unit/regimental markings?
The tunic in post 448 appears to be a Sudfront (possibly smooth Italian cloth with German green collar)?
Another interesting photo (looks like pocket folding due to arm movement).

Hey,
No I havent been able to spot any markings on the vehicles im afraid. There is one with a kubelwagen where you clearly see the license plate number but that photo seems to be late war and not in Africa.
I did however find this photo of a comrades grave that may solve the unit question. The cross is marked Fla. Btl 000. Can anyone tell me more about that unit?

of course it is. There was only one flak batallion 606.
Infamous, well I guess they were as infamous as any other front line combat unit in the campaign.Last edited by milcollector; 12-29-2007, 01:29 PM.

Heer Flak 606 (Kampfgruppe Briel) was quite famous. It was an independent Army Flak unit - equipped mostly with 88's and used in the anti-tank role. The commander, Maj. Georg Briel won the Knight's Cross on July 23, 1942.
Here's a neat link to Maj. Georg Briel:

And other notable Kampfgruppe commanders in North Afrika (including Hauptman Briel):

I found a couple links to Flak Bau. 606 here (as they appear in the Order of Battle):

And here's another site discussing this unit: http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10263
The photos are very, very valuable! Nice set. I have an award to another member of that unit signed by Georg Briel in post 372 - reposted below.
