Jean-Loup thanks for posting your items.
I am doing some research on Luftwaffe pith helmet eagles. Could you please post a close up of the two you have. I would really appreciate seeing their details.

      Thanks kindly

thanks Jean-Loupe for those close ups.
Both lovely birds. Not necessarily desert birds, but certainly tropical and of course 100% original !!

Is there a difference between the eyebrows of your two ?
I think the bottom one has a thicker eyebrow than the top one ?

I am interested in the differences of design. See the pic I has posted below. Does anyone have the same design as the bottom bird in my picture ?
Note the difference in eye and the length of the leg.

              Hi,

IMO the ring skull is Austrian WW1 not italian

                Hi There,
The gold is actually still nearly all there on the top panel, but hasn't photographed well. This was a souvenir given to a KIWI by the German while being taken as a POW so as not to fall into British hands.

The eyebrow does look a bit bigger, but it is difficult to tell for sure because it seems slightly bent, and because the different patina tricks the eye. The entire bottom eagle seems generaly flater. For technical questions about these luft trop eagles, you should search around the FJ forum, they know their stuff well.

I posted the ring because it was originaly picked up in North Africa, so I am relatively certain it is from WW2, either Italia or German. What makes you say Austrian? I have seen many similar rings used by germans, but they werent made in copper.

Here is an italian drinking bottle that appears very boring and incomplete:

But it was given to my by the sister of a veteran of the "Regiment d'Artillerie de Blida". This regiment had their first and very serious encounter with German troops in Tunisia on december 22nd 1942...
Note the drinking bottle has the initials "KG" on it. How many italian names do you see starting with "K"?
Secondly, engraved in the bottle are the french words:"Taken from the enemy on 22 12 42" or "Pris a l'ennemi le 22 12 42"

That bottle is a favorite of mine.

                        Hi,

the ring is very similar at the ww1 rings used by austrian sturmtruppe
is possible an italian copy ww2, the skull are very popular on the italian
                        blackshirts.
The initials "KG" very strange for an italian, all is possible also that
the soldier was born in the north est of Italy where many last name
are in origin Austrian, for an example only in the 1918 the Italian
city of Trieste passed from Austria to make part of Italy.

What I meant with the "K" initial is that this water bottle was maybe used by a German soldier. This would also explain why it was captured during a battle against German troops.

For the ring, here is a thread I had made long ago: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...84#post1931684 According to one guy who seems to know his stuff, both are German made from WW2.
