I am also convinced that the Himmler chair was made for and presented to him as his wedding chair - therefore it is possible that two of them were made:

    - one with the initials of him

    - the second one with the initials of Hedwig Potthast

Perhaps either the second chair was never made and my theory is for the worms - or it was made but never made it into the DAW-catalogue due to privacy issues or the page depicting the second chair got lost.

Fact is that the Himmler chair is almost an identical copy of a wedding chair used by saxonian peasants during the 17th-19th century.
So, you think this chair to be authentic and the so called MK boxes to be fakes? Is the chair in any documented period material at all?

      Don,

Such a chair was photographed in the craft workshops, so one must have been period made, whether its the one offered offered for sale I don't know. See Buchenwald Archive. Can't post it due to the copyright.

I think it looks like a case as seen from the top ,even seems to have the flat protruding edge around the base.

yes, some nice images of wooden items, thanks Steve. Someday maybe a cask will surface in photos like these. The plates have a deeper carving than we have seen in my opinion. I see a julleuchter on the table here I think:

Yeah, the plates have a deeper carving, they look a bit crude to me. We have seen some nicer looking ones with better carving in this thread, , all personal taste though

Steve, Great detective work! a lot of this source material is out there but we just don't know where to look and much has yet to be discovered hopefully. That is some strong evidence about the ING rune being used - but still not as widespread as it should have been perhaps. The odal rune got much more useage. I think someone showed a wedding tray or plaque on here once with the ING rune, but I cannot recall exactly.

There is surely more information, it just has to be found. The internet has just a small selection of what's really out there in archives, for example the Buchenwald archive shows only a tiny selection of it's material. Our German colleagues should go into the many available archives and have a look, hint

I'd forgotten about the Buchenwald photo's but the ship design on one of my plates reminded me.
